Monnat's Personal Statement, which was included in her nomination
"Throughout my time at Le Moyne, I have been a member of volunteer organizations such as Love Your Melon and Maureen's Hope. I have been recognized as an athlete with a Top-10 GPA, a Sport Excellence Award winner and an All-American. While I believe these experiences have contributed to my development, the most influential comes from our Team Impact family, the Searles. Lauren Searle was adopted onto our team last year after battling cancer. Since then, I have attended middle school plays and marching band concerts. I have played 1-on-1 basketball with her little brother, and brought Lauren and her sister to my college lectures.

Lauren has shown me that as a scholar, I need to exemplify the importance of learning. As a leader, I need to take the gifts I've been given and never waste them. As an athlete, I need to remember that being a part of something bigger than yourself is the ultimate win. While there are many beneficial organizations I'm a member of, I believe it's the compilation of these experiences that have truly influenced me as a scholar, athlete, and leader to have a positive impact on the world."
