NE-10 Recognizes Adelphi Women's Soccer Standout Groth
PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Adelphi University women's soccer student-athlete Taylor Groth has been selected as the 2015-16 Northeast-10 Conference Female Outstanding Scholar-Athlete of the Year. The NE-10 honored Groth with the award at the conference's annual awards banquet held in Providence, R.I. on Monday, June 6.
Groth recently graduated with a 3.933 GPA while earning a degree in psychology. She is a three-time Academic All-Conference honoree and was chosen as this year's NE-10 Sport Excellence Award winner in women's soccer. Groth helped lead the Panthers to their first-ever NE-10 Women's Soccer Championship this year and was named to the All-Championship Team.
Groth picked up a number of national honors for her work on the field and in the classroom this past season. Most notably, she was named to the CoSIDA Academic All-America Second Team for the second straight year. Groth was honored by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) by earning All-America Third Team, All-Region Third Team and Scholar All-America recognition. The three-time Academic All-District selection was also named an All-America Second Team and All-Region First Team choice by the Conference Commissioners Association (CCA).
Recognized as the NE-10 Defensive Player of the Year in the fall, Groth anchored an Adelphi defense that gave up the fewest goals per game in the conference this season with a 0.59 goals-against average, while she chipped in one game-winning goal as well. Groth picked up NE-10 All-Conference First Team accolades this year, earning her second career all-conference nod.
