Golden Knights Were NCAA Finalists in 2021.
MANSFIELD, Mass. – Saint Rose, a two-time defending league champion and 2021 NCAA finalist, repeated as the preseason favorite when the Northeast-10 Conference Women's Soccer Coaches' Poll was announced on Thursday morning.
It is the second-straight year that the Golden Knights have been chosen first by NE10 head coaches, as they tallied 142 points and 10 of 13 first-place votes. Under head coach Laurie Darling Gutheil, Saint Rose has captured a league-record nine NE10 titles during her tenure – including the 2021 season.
The Golden Knights not only captured the NE10 championship last season, but went on to defeat Mercy to claim their eighth NCAA East Region title in program history. Almost two weeks later, Saint Rose came within one overtime goal from claiming its second-ever NCAA Championship – but ultimately fell to Grand Valley State by a 3-2 margin.
Southern New Hampshire finished second in the poll with 133 points and a pair of first-place votes, while Franklin Pierce was third with 108 points. Adelphi placed fourth with 99 points and the final first-place tally, while Bentley finished fifth with 98 points.
