NE10 Women's Soccer Report: Week 3

Women's Soccer - Week 3

Week 3 - September 18, 2023

NE10 Player of the Week

Kelsey Burr, Southern Connecticut
Senior | Forward | Wallingford, Conn.

In a 2-0 week, Burr led the Owls and the NE10 with three goals and assist for a conference-best seven points. Against Holy Family in a 2-0 win, Burr scored the Owls' first goal of the game. Against Saint Michael's in the Owls' NE10 opener, Burr had a hand in all three of Southern's goals in a 3-0 win. Burr scored the game's first goal, set up Kylee Slavik with the Owls' second goal and then converted on a penalty kick to give Southern a 3-0 lead.

NE10 Defensive Player of the Week

Morgan Salmon, Adelphi
Senior | Defense | West Hempstead, N.Y.

The team's key central defender, Salmon led an Adelphi defensive unit that kept the opposition off the scoreboard for 180 minutes. The leading offense in the ECC in 2022, Salmon's play held Mercy scoreless in a 1-0 win, including netting the winning penalty in the 89th minute to break a scoreless tie.

NE10 Goalkeeper of the Week

Claudia Keith, Southern New Hampshire
Sophomore | Goalkeeper | Danvers, Mass.

Keith stopped 10 of the 11 shots she faced during a 1-0-1 week for the Penmen. Keith made all five saves in a 1-0 blanking of Lynn on Thursday and then turned away another five shots in a 1-1 draw with Barry on Saturday. Keith has made 19 stops on 21 shots this season.

NE10 Rookie of the Week

Brielle Zink, Saint Rose
Freshman | Midfield | Islip, N.Y.

Zink netted two goals in the second half of Tuesday's 3-2 victory over Daemen. She also played a key role in helping the No. 3 Golden Knights' defense shutout No. 14 Franklin Pierce in a 1-0 road win Saturday night.

NE10 Weekly Honor Roll

Kayla Mushorn, Adelphi (Sr., D - Massapequa, N.Y.)
The reigning NE10 Defensive Player of the Week, Mushorn helped lead a defensive unit that kept their opposition scoreless across a full 180 minutes. She also unleashed a highlight-reel goal from distance that opened the scoring of a 5-0 win over Assumption on Saturday. The goal was her fourth career game-winner.

Caitlin Daley, New Haven (So., GK - Norwich, Conn.)
Daley finished the week with 12 combined saves, collecting a half dozen each against Dominican and American International as she helped lead the Chargers to a 2-1 win over AIC to open up NE10 play with a victory.

Riley Drosopoulos, New Haven (So., D - Marshfield, Mass.)
Thanks to her 76th minute goal, Riley Drosopoulos has the Chargers off to a 1-0 start in NE10 play as she scored the game-winner unassisted to take a 2-1 road win over American International. The goal is her second of the season, both of which have been marked as game-winners.

Josie Pecor, Saint Anselm (Jr., F - Williston, Vt.)
Pecor helped lift the Saint Anselm to a victory on Saturday in the team's league-opener against Pace, including the game-winner in the 83rd minute. Pecor's pair of scores came in a 3:39 window, with the first coming in the game's 80th minute. The goals marked the first of the season for Josie, and the sixth and seventh of her Saint Anselm career.

Abby Aughe, Southern Conn. St. (So., GK - Springfield, Pa.)
In a 2-0 week, Aughe logged 180 perfect minutes in goal, recording four saves while posting back-to-back clean sheets in wins against Holy Family and St. Michael's. Against the Purple Knights in the Owls' NE10 opener, Aughe stopped the Purple Knights' lone shot on goal for her second-straight clean sheet as she has not allowed a goal in 210:51 consecutive minutes over her last three games.

Kylee Slavik, Southern Conn. St. (Jr., F - Plymouth, Mass.)
In 2-0 week, Slavik was second on the Owls' roster with two goals and an assist for five points. Against Holy Family, she scored the Owls' second goal. In Southern's NE10 opener against St. Michael's, Slavik made an incredible pass to Kelsey Burr to set up the Owls first goal before scoring Southern's second goal in a 3-0 win.

Lauren Conti, Southern N.H. (Jr., B - Schenectady, N.Y.)
Conti helped to anchor a back line that allowed just one goal on 12 shots on target during a 1-0-1 week for the Penmen. The SNHU defense back-boned a 1-0 victory at Lynn on Thursday and then held up long enough for the Penmen to earn a 1-1 draw at Barry on Saturday.
