Adelphi Leads NE10 with Six First Team Selections.
MANSFIELD, Mass. – Southern New Hampshire sophomore Magdalena Hubickova has been named the 2021 Northeast-10 Conference Vern Cox Women's Tennis Player of the Year, as the league announced all-conference awards on Tuesday afternoon.
For a complete list of all-conference honorees, please see below. Franklin Pierce, the top seed in the NE10 Women's Tennis Championship, had a league-best six players earn nine selections, while Stonehill had six players win six selections. Adelphi had five players earn six selections.
Hubickova, a native of Prague, Czech Republic, went 8-1 at No. 1 singles this season in 10 appearances for the Penmen. In addition to Player of the Year, she earned a First Team All-Conference spot at No. 1 singles and a Third Team All-Conference selection at No. 1 doubles, netting a 7-2 record with teammate Alexxa Etienne. As a freshman, Hubickova was the NE10 Rookie of the Year and a Second Team All-Conference honoree.
Franklin Pierce freshman Maria Penalver Aguilo is the NE10 Rookie of the Year after a 6-1 record at No. 1 singles for Franklin Pierce, leading the Ravens to the regular season title. A native of Las Palmas, Spain, Penalver Aguilo was selected Second Team All-Conference at No. 1 singles, as well as No. 2 doubles, partnering with Laura Alvarez Tello. Penalver Aguilo and Alvarez Tello went a combined 9-0 at doubles, including 6-0 at second doubles.
Following an undefeated 9-0 conference record, regular season championship and earning the top seed in the NE10 Championship, Franklin Pierce's Peter Arsenault earned NE10 Women's Tennis Coach of the Year honors. Arsenault's squad will host eighth-seeded Bentley on Wednesday in the league quarterfinals.
Adelphi led the NE10 in First Team selections, earning six of nine positions – including three players who earned honors at both singles and doubles. Barbie Quagliardi, the 2019 NE10 Player of the Year, was chosen for the First Team at No. 2 singles and No. 1 doubles. Nicole Stay (No. 3 singles, No. 2 doubles) and Amanda Franstedt (No. 4 singles, No. 2 doubles) also earned multiple First Team spots.
The NE10 Women's Tennis Championship continues on Wednesday with the quarterfinals, with the high seeds - Franklin Pierce, Adelphi, Stonehill and Le Moyne – serving as hosts. For the full schedule and all other championship information, click HERE.
The NE10 Player of the Year award is named in honor of former longtime Springfield College head coach Vern Cox.
