Top Four Seeds in Women's Tennis Advance to NE10 Semifinals on Friday

MANSFIELD, Mass. – High seeds advanced through the Northeast-10 Conference Women's Tennis Championship quarterfinals on Wednesday afternoon, setting up high-powered showdowns for Friday between the top four seeds in the semifinal round. No. 1 Franklin Pierce will host No. 4 Le Moyne, while No. 2 Adelphi welcomes No. 3 Stonehill for a trip to the NE10 Championship match on Sunday. 

The Ravens and Dolphins earned shutout wins over Bentley and Southern New Hampshire, respectively, and will meet for the first time this season on Friday. Franklin Pierce is a perfect 10-0 against NE10 opponents. The Panthers and Skyhawks each won by 4-1 finals on Wednesday. Friday's matchup between Adelphi and Stonehill will feature the two teams who have won the past six NE10 Championship titles combined (three for each). 


(1) Franklin Pierce 4, (8) Bentley 0 – Box Score

Franklin Pierce, the regular season champion, cruised to a 4-0 win over eighth-seeded Bentley on Wednesday in the NE10 Championship quarterfinals behind singles and doubles wins from NE10 Rookie of the Year Maria Penalver Aguilo.

Penalver Aguilo won at No. 1 singles, beating Adriana Hiraldo by a 6-0, 6-2 margin, after teaming with Laura Alvarez Tello for a 6-0 victory at No. 2 doubles over Makena Romagnano and Anna Lang. The Ravens received other singles wins from Zoe Asterio Correa and Estela Carra.

Now 10-0 against NE10 opponents this season, Franklin Pierce will welcome fourth-seeded Le Moyne in Friday's semifinals at 1 p.m.


(2) Adelphi 4, (7) Assumption 1 – Box Score

Barbie Quagliardi and Nicole Stay, a pair of First Team All-Conference selections, won at both singles and doubles on Wednesday to help Adelphi advance past seventh-seeded Assumption, 4-1, in the NE10 quarterfinals at the USTA National Tennis Center.

Quagliardi teamed with Nicole Kielan to win at No. 1 doubles, 6-3, over Julia Chappell and Valeria Sanchez. Stay partnered with Amanda Franstedt to beat Caitlin Sze and Cara McCormack, 6-2, at No. 2 doubles – clinching the doubles point for the Panthers.

Julia Kielan won at No. 5 singles, while Quagliardi then grabbed a win at No. 2 and Stay at No. 3. Assumption's sole win came at No. 6 singles due to a defaulted match.

The Panthers advance to their eighth NE10 semifinal in program history and will host third-seeded Stonehill on Friday at 11:30 a.m. indoors at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in Flushing, N.Y.


(3) Stonehill 4, (6) New Haven 1 – Box Score

After dropping the doubles point to New Haven, Stonehill came charging back in singles – winning all four completed matches on Wednesday to beat the Chargers, 4-1, and advance to the NE10 Championship semifinals.

Steffi Antao won at No. 2 singles over Stephanie Gonzalez, 6-2, 6-4, while Isabelle Porter grabbed a three-set over at No. 3 over Nicole Mika, 6-1, 2-6, 6-1. Emma Markaryan and Samantha Ormesher, a pair of All-Conference selections, won at No. 4 and 5 singles, respectively, to help the Skyhawks to victory.

Stonehill will travel to play second-seeded Adelphi on Friday in the semifinals at 11:30 a.m. 


(4) Le Moyne 4, (5) Southern New Hampshire 0 – Box Score

Fiona Pepper, Rebecca Peters and Camila Humala all earned singles victories on Wednesday afternoon in the NE10 Championship quarterfinals, helped fourth-seeded Le Moyne to a 4-0 shutout win over fifth-seeded Southern New Hampshire.

Pepper, in addition to winning at No. 3 singles, teamed with Marta Nunez to win at No. 2 doubles over SNHU's Isabella Andrade and Elizabeth Dwyer, 6-2. Peters and Humala partnered at No. 3 doubles for a 6-3 victory over Mina Houge and Madison Blazejowski, as the duo came off wins at No. 5 and 6 singles, respectively.

Le Moyne travels to play top-seeded Franklin Pierce on Friday in the NE10 Championship semifinals. The two teams did not meet during the regular season.
