Week 8 - October 17, 2022

NE10 Player of the Week

Macy Brown, New Haven
Sophomore | Outside Hitter | Cadillac, Mich.

Brown led New Haven to a 2-0 week racking up a total of 37 kills which led the Chargers in both of their outings. She opened up the week with 20 kills in a four-set conference win over Pace as she was the only player in that game to reach the 20 kill mark. Overall, she would finish that match hitting .386 with three errors in 44 attempts and picked up 21 digs for the double-double. Brown then closed out the week tied with Emily Barry, each with 17 kills, as well as 19 digs to lead the team in a non-conference win at Pace.


NE10 Libero of the Week

Deanne Wilson, Southern New Hampshire
Sophomore | Libero | Buffalo, N.Y.

Wilson collected 57 digs (6.33 d/s), 10 assists (1.11 a/s) and six aces (0.67 sa/s) in a 2-0 week for the Penmen. Wilson tallied 22 digs and a trio of aces in a 3-1 victory at Assumption on Tuesday before registering a career-high 35 digs to go with three more aces in Friday's five-set win at Franklin Pierce. 


NE10 Setter of the Week

Valeria Jorge, Saint Rose
Junior | Setter | Cayey, Puerto Rico

Jorge posted 122 assists (9.38 per set), 29 digs, 16 block assists (two solo), 10 kills, and six aces to help the Golden Knights go 2-1 across the week. On Tuesday at Le Moyne, Jorge tallied a career-best 60 assists in the five-set comeback over the Dolphins. Her net presence was also a difference-maker in home matches against Saint Anselm and Saint Michael's, where she led Saint Rose with eight and six blocks, respectively.


NE10 Rookie of the Week

Macarty McQueen, Adelphi
Freshman | Outside Hitter | Carmel, Ind.

In a 2-0 week for Adelphi, McQueen was responsible for 3.17 kills and 3.33 digs per set. Against Southern Connecticut she collected nine kills with just one error to post a .421 hitting percentage and also added four service aces. She nearly doubled her service ace total with three more against Assumption, ultimately averaging 1.17 service aces per set.


NE10 Weekly Honor Roll

Brenna Valsted, Adelphi (Sr., S - Louisville, Kent.)
At 10.17 assists per set, Valsted paced the Adelphi offense in a 2-0 conference week. She totaled 61 assists, helping the team post a .328 hitting percentage through six sets. She also added 15 digs for 2.50 per set. 

Naomi Eckert Rivera, American International (Jr, S - Toa Baja, Puerto Rico)
The region's top playmaker was once again brilliant for AIC in a 3-0 week of 3-0 wins. She handed out 84 assists in nine sets, all wins, while pulling in 32 digs and making four blocks. 29 of those 32 digs came against conference foes Bentley and Southern Connecticut.

Morgan Schmutzler, Franklin Pierce (Jr., L - Lockport, Ill.)
In one matchup over the past week, Schmutzler stood out in a 3-2 five-set loss for the Ravens versus SNHU with 29 total digs with a 5.80 d/s average. The junior libero also contributed five assists, and collected a pair of service aces from the back in the effort.

Rilee Jessee, New Haven (Jr., OH - Edinburgh, Ind.)
As the Chargers starting Libero, Jessee racked up 31 total digs last week, an average of 3.88 per sent. She also added an assist and four service aces. In the four-set conference win over Pace, Jessee finished with 14 digs, while she added 17 in a four-set non-conference win over Post. She also had all four of her service aces come against the Setters.

Sophia Leon-Tabor, New Haven (So., S - Fort Myers, Fla.)
Leon-Tabor led the Chargers offense to a 2-0 week with 99 assists while adding three kills, a block and a service ace. Leon-Tabor opened up the week with 53 assists in a four-set conference win over Pace, while she wrapped up the week with 36 assists in a non-conference win over Post.

Lauren Casey, Saint Anselm (Sr., OH - Jefferson City, Mo.)
Across two road matches, Lauren Casey posted 41 kills and an outstanding .344 hitting percentage. Averaging 4.56 kills per set, she produced 22 kills at Saint Rose on Friday before posting 19 kills (and just three errors) at Le Moyne on Saturday in two wins for the Hawks. With 227 kills, Casey ranks third in the NE10.

Michelle Henwood, Saint Anselm (Sr., S - Guaynabo, Puerto Rico)
Against Le Moyne on Saturday, Michelle Henwood had 37 assists, 18 digs and nine kills for her 11th double-double of the season. She was one kill away from the first triple-double by a Hawks student-athlete since Natalie Steinwart '15 had 49 assists, 12 digs and 10 kills against Mercy (N.Y.) on Sept. 17, 2011. The day prior, Henwood handed out 40 assists in the match, leading the team in digs as well with 14. On the week, she finished with 8.56 assists/set and had 16 kills on 29 attacks for a .483 hitting percentage.

Ainsley Knox, Southern N.H. (Sr., S - Houston, Texas)
Knox registered 110 assists (12.22 a/s), a pair of aces (0.22 sa/s) and 22 digs (2.44 d/s) during SNHU's 2-0 week. Knox obliterated her previous career high with 53 assists and added nine digs, and an ace in Tuesday's 3-1 win at Assumption. Knox came back in Friday's five-set win at Franklin Pierce and set new career bests in assists (57) and digs (13).

Ana Pimenta, Southern N.H. (Jr., OH - Rio de Janeiro, Brazil)
Pimenta amassed 38 kills (4.22 k/s), a pair of aces (0.22 sa/s), 23 digs (2.56 d/s) and six blocks (0.67 b/s) during a 2-0 week for the Penmen. Pimenta recorded a career-high 17 kills, 11 digs, four blocks and an ace in a 3-1 win at Assumption on Tuesday, before setting a new career best with 21 kills, to go with 12 digs, two blocks and another ace in Friday's five-set win at Franklin Pierce.
