Southern Connecticut Upsets Bentley; AIC to Host NE10 Volleyball Championship Weekend

Three of Four High Seeds Advance to Saturday's Semifinals.


MANSFIELD, Mass. - No. 7 Southern Connecticut grabbed an upset victory over No. 2 Bentley on Thursday night, 3-1, as the Northeast-10 Conference Volleyball Championship began with quarterfinal action. Three of four high seeds advanced to Championship Weekend, which will be hosted by No. 1 American International. 

The NE10 Championship semifinals are set for Saturday evening at the Butova Gymnasium, as AIC will play No. 4 Southern New Hampshire at 4 p.m., while Southern Connecticut will square-off with No. 3 Adelphi at 6:30 p.m. The NE10 Volleyball Championship final will be played on Sunday at 3 p.m. All games will be streamed on NE10NOW.tv

Postseason admission in all rounds of NE10 fall championships will be $10 for adults, $5 for seniors and children. Current NE10 students, with valid ID, will be admitted free of charge. 


(1) American International 3, (8) Franklin Pierce 0 – Box Score

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. - AIC's Andrea Serra Rosa recorded 15 kills, while Naomi Eckert Rivera averaged over 12 assists per set as top-seeded American International rolled to a 3-0 victory over No. 8 Franklin Pierce in the NE10 Volleyball Championship quarterfinals on Thursday night. 

Paola Soto Burgos added 11 kills and tied Serra Rosa for a match-high 15.5 points in the victory, helping to lead AIC to its fourth-consecutive trip to the NE10 Championship semifinals. The Yellow Jackets will host the Championship semifinals on Saturday and the final on Sunday. Semifinal times are set for 4 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. on Saturday, with the final match coming Sunday at 3 p.m.


(7) Southern Connecticut 3, (2) Bentley 1 – Box Score

WALTHAM, Mass. - The biggest surprise of the night happened when No. 7 Southern Connecticut knocked-off No. 2 Bentley - an NE10 co-regular season champion - at the Dana Center on Thursday night to advance to its first NE10 Championship semifinal since 2018. 

Gabriela Gaibur had a huge performance for the Owls, racking-up 21 kills on a .500 hitting percentage. Bentley was led by Ingrid Murphy with a double-double of 15 kills and 25 digs. The Owls will move on to play No. 3 Adelphi on Saturday night at 6:30 p.m. 


(3) Adelphi 3, (6) New Haven 0 – Box Score

GARDEN CITY, N.Y. - Brenna Valsted recorded a double-double of 28 assists and 14 digs to lead No. 3 Adelphi to a convincing 3-0 win over No. 6 New Haven on Thursday night in the NE10 Volleyball Championship quarterfinals. 

Six players for Adelphi had at least six kills, while New Haven's Macy Brown added a team-high 12 to lead the way for the Chargers. The Panthers will move on to play Southern Connecticut on Saturday in semifinal action. First serve is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. at AIC.


(4) Southern New Hampshire 3, (5) Saint Anselm 0 – Box Score

HOOKSETT, N.H. – No. 4 Southern New Hampshire recorded a .344 team hitting percentage on Thursday night behind 16 kills from Ana Pimenta, leading the Penmen to a 3-0 win over No. 5 Saint Anselm and a trip to Saturday's Championship semifinals against No. 1 American International. 

SNHU's Sara Montefameglio and Deanne Wilson combined for 31 digs in the match, while Saint Anselm's Lauren Casey tallied a double-double of 11 kills and 12 digs in the loss. It is SNHU's first-ever trip to the NE10 Championship semifinals. First serve against the Yellow Jackets is scheduled for 4 p.m. on Saturday.
