Finalists for Northeast-10 Conference Man & Woman of the Year Awards Announced

MANSFIELD, Mass. - The Northeast-10 Conference has released the three finalists for its 2015-16 Man and Woman of the Year Awards, two of the conference’s most prestigious awards. The award-winners will be announced at the league’s annual banquet on Monday, June 6 in Providence, Rhode Island

The three finalists for the Woman of the Year Award are Adelphi’s Molly Cuevas (field hockey), American International’s Brianna Bishop (basketball) and Le Moyne’s Maggie Monnat (lacrosse).

The NE-10’s Man of the Year finalists are Bentley’s Keegan Hyland (basketball), Merrimack’s Julio Leon Garcia, pictured, (soccer), and New Haven’s John Paul DiTommaso (soccer).

"These are truly some of the best of the best in the NE-10," said Commissioner Julie Ruppert. "We are proud of each of these outstanding young men and women, and all of their tremendous accomplishments."

2015-16 Northeast-10 Conference Woman of the Year Finalists:

Adelphi’s Molly Cuevas – A 3.707 student-athlete majoring in sport management, Cuevas wrapped up her career in Garden City as probably the school’s most-decorated field hockey student-athlete.  She was a four-time First Team All-Conference selection, and was twice named a First Team All-American. Cuevas was very involved with Adelphi’s SAAC, and helped out in a number of philanthropic efforts off the field as well.

American International’s Brianna Bishop – Bishop, who is working towards graduate degree in physical therapy, posted a 3.81 GPA in her undergraduate studies. She was named to the NE-10’s Academic All-Conference team twice, and was the Sport Excellence award winner for Women’s Basketball this past season.  Briana is very involved with a number of community engagement efforts, including being a leader with her team’s match through Team IMPACT.

Le Moyne’s Maggie Monnat – A two-time All-Conference selection, Monnat helped the Dolphins to four NCAA tournament appearances during her time on campus. A biology major with a 3.97 GPA, Monnat was the recipient of the NCAA’s prestigious Elite 89 award in 2015 and was also a Capital One Academic All-District First Team selection. Off the field, she was very involved with a number of community efforts specifically devoted to working with children with health issues.

2015-16 Northeast-10 Conference Man of the Year Finalists:

Bentley’s Keegan Hyland – A 3.92 student-athlete, Hyland was a two-time CoSIDA Academic All-America selection. He received his master’s degree in finance at Bentley this spring and was a two-time All-Conference selection, while helping lead the Falcons to the Northeast Division title this past season.

Merrimack’s Julio Leon Garcia – A three-year All-Conference selection, Leon Garcia helped lead the Warriors to three NCAA Tournament appearances during his time at Merrimack. Julio majored in finance and international business at Merrimack and completed his studies with a 3.71 GPA.

New Haven’s John Paul DiTommaso – DiTommaso recently completed his studies in business management and management of sports industries at New Haven with a 3.97 grade point average.  He was a three-year captain on the soccer team and was an active member of the school’s SAAC, while serving in numerous other community service efforts throughout his four years.

The Northeast-10 Conference is an association of 15 NCAA Division II colleges and universities located in New England and New York that is committed to supporting balanced academic and athletic opportunities for more than 6,500 student-athletes. 

Each year, 4,500 of those student-athletes compete in conference championships in 24 sports, making the NE-10 the largest DII conference in the country in terms of sport sponsorship.
