NE-10 Male and Female Scholar-Athlete Award Finalists Released

Award Winners to Be Honored at Year-End Banquet

MANSFIELD, Mass. – The finalists for the 2015-16 Northeast-10 Conference Male and Female Outstanding Scholar-Athlete of the Year awards have been released, it was shared by the league office on Thursday. The award winners will be announced and recognized at the league’s annual banquet on Monday, June 6 in Providence, R.I.

The finalists for the Male Scholar-Athlete award are Bentley University’s Keegan Hyland (basketball), Southern New Hampshire University’s Jonathan Lupinelli (soccer) and Stonehill College’s Anthony Masucci (football).

The Female Scholar-Athlete award finalists are Adelphi University’s Taylor Groth (soccer), Le Moyne College’s Maggie Monnat (lacrosse) and Stonehill College’s Trisha Pierson (track & field).

2015-16 Male Outstanding Scholar-Athlete of the Year Finalists
Bentley’s Keegan Hyland – Hyland graduated with a master’s degree in finance from Bentley this spring after a stellar career with the Falcons’ men’s basketball program. A two-time First Team CoSIDA Academic All-American and NE-10 Sport Excellence Award winner, he posted a 3.92 GPA while earning his second all-conference nod in 2015-16. 

Southern New Hampshire’s Jonathan Lupinelli – A three-time all-conference selection on the SNHU men’s soccer team, Lupinelli collected a 3.97 GPA as an elementary education major. Also a two-time CoSIDA Academic All-American and NE-10 Sport Excellence Award winner, he helped lead the Penmen to their fourth straight NE-10 title in the fall.

Stonehill’s Anthony Masucci – A second team all-conference selection as a defensive back for the Skyhawks’ football team this past season, Masucci garnered a 3.59 GPA while going for a degree in finance. He also was a CoSIDA Academic All-American this fall, earning the NE-10 Sport Excellence Award in football as well.

2015-16 Female Outstanding Scholar-Athlete of the Year Finalists
Adelphi’s Taylor Groth – The NE-10 Defensive Player of the Year this past season for the Panthers, Groth put together a 3.933 GPA as a psychology major. A two-time CoSIDA Academic All-American, she collected All-America honors from both the CCA and NSCAA this fall while helping Adelphi win its first NE-10 Women’s Soccer Championship. 

Le Moyne’s Maggie Monnat – A two-time all-conference choice and a former NE-10 Sport Excellence Award winner, Monnat garnered a 3.96 GPA while studying biology. The NCAA Women’s Lacrosse Elite 89 Award recipient last year, she was named an IWLCA All-American for the second year in a row after helping Le Moyne reach the national semifinals this spring.

Stonehill’s Trisha Pierson – Posting a 3.98 GPA with a double major in accounting and economics, Pierson (pictured) recently became the first female in Stonehill history to earn three Academic All-District First Team accolades. A former NE-10 Sport Excellence Award winner in indoor track & field, she won her third straight NE-10 title in the discus throw at this year’s outdoor championships.

The Northeast-10 Conference is an association of 15 NCAA Division II colleges and universities located in New England and New York that is committed to supporting balanced academic and athletic opportunities for more than 6,500 student-athletes. 

Each year, 4,500 of those student-athletes compete in conference championships in 24 sports, making the NE-10 the largest DII conference in the country in terms of sport sponsorship.
