Northeast-10 Announces Spring Academic All-Conference Teams

South Easton, Mass. – The Northeast-10 Conference has announced its Academic All Conference teams for the 2011 spring athletic season. 97 student-athletes from the nine spring sports; baseball, golf, men's and women's lacrosse, softball, men's and women's tennis, and men's and women's outdoor track and field were recognized for their outstanding achievements in the classroom and on the playing field.

Among the student-athletes that were named to this prestigious list is a five-time national champion and the NE-10's Woman of the Year, The University of New Haven's Shannon Gagne, and four conference players of the year in their respective sports. That prestigious list includes Gagne, The University of Massachusetts Lowell's Elyssa Boris (softball), Southern New Hampshire University's Amber Chandronnait (tennis), and Le Moyne College's Jack Venditti (lacrosse).

Bentley University, Southern Connecticut State University, and Stonehill College led all schools with twelve student-athletes from each institution recognized. Merrimack College followed with nine student-athletes being named to Academic All-Conference teams, while Le Moyne had eight. Nine members of the So. Connecticut men's and women's outdoor track and field teams were recognized for their athletic and academic success.

By sport, women's outdoor track and field led the way with 18 student-athletes named to the Academic All-Conference team. Women's lacrosse was second with fifteen, while softball had thirteen. Men's outdoor track and field was fourth with twelve student-athletes honored.

To be eligible for selection to the academic all-conference teams, a student-athlete must have met and/or exceeded the following minimum requirements: 1) participated in at least half of the team's competitions and be either a starter or significant contributor; 2) achieved a 3.30 cumulative grade point average (on a 4.0 scale); and 3) completed at least one academic year at his/her current institution. The Northeast-10 Academic All-Conference teams are chosen by a vote of a committee of athletic administrators and Faculty Athletic Representatives (FAR)

The Northeast-10 is an association of 16 NCAA Division II colleges and universities located in New England and New York that are committed to supporting balanced academic and athletic opportunities for more than 6,500 student-athletes. Each year, 4,500 of those student-athletes compete in Conference championships in 23 sports, making the NE-10 the largest DII conference in the country. Leading the way in the classroom, on the field and within the community, the Northeast-10 is proud of its comprehensive program and the experience it provides student-athletes.
