FINAL LEARFIELD CUP STANDINGS

Two Northeast-10 Schools Place in Top-50 and Eight in Top-100

South Easton, Mass. –The University of Massachusetts Lowell finished 23rd among Division II institutions nationwide in the Learfield Sports Directors’ Cup final standings for the 2011-12 academic year.

The Learfield Cup honors colleges and universities for achieving success in sports. The program was developed by the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics (NACDA) and USA Today in a combined effort, with point totals based on each institution’s finish in up to 14 different sports, made up by seven men’s and seven women’s sport programs.

UMass Lowell finished with a total of 446.5 points in the standings after adding 104.5 points this spring. The River Hawks also tallied 154 points in the winter and 188 points in the fall.


In all, each of the 16 Northeast-10 member institutions received points in the final standings, with Southern Connecticut State University placing second among conference schools with 305.0 points, good for 48th in the nation.

The Northeast-10 has eight schools in the top-100 overall, with Stonehill College finishing third among conference members with 250.0 points, places the school 67th in the country. The Northeast-10 contingent also includes Bentley University (241.0 points) in 70th place, Franklin Pierce University (238.0) in 73rd place, Southern New Hampshire University (223.0) in 79th place, Adelphi University (215.0) in 83rd place, and American International College (204.75) in 93rd place.

The Northeast-10 is an association of 16 NCAA Division II colleges and universities located in New England and New York that is committed to supporting balanced academic and athletic opportunities for more than 5,500 student-athletes. Each year, 4,000 of those student-athletes compete in Conference championships in 23 sports, making the NE-10 the largest DII conference in the country.
