SOUTH EASTON, Mass. – Ten Northeast-10 Conference female student-athletes have been selected as nominees for the 23rd annual NCAA Woman of the Year Award, it was announced earlier this week.
A total of 455 female student-athletes were nominated for the
annual award, which honors graduating female student-athletes who
have distinguished themselves throughout their collegiate careers
in the areas of academic achievement, athletics excellence, service
and leadership.
Of the nominees, 214 participated in Division I and 90 were
Division II student-athletes, which means 11 percent of the
Division II nominees hail from Northeast-10 member schools.
The 10 nominees from the Northeat-10 are Daniela
Abruzzese (Southern New Hampshire University),
Nicole Adach (Saint Michael’s
College), Caitlin Brauer (The College of
Saint Rose), Emily Dorko (Adelphi
University), Allyn Doyle (Saint Anselm
College), Paige Frost (Stonehill
College), Molly Kessler (Assumption
College), Rachel Resnick (University of
New Haven), Elyse Rowland (Pace
University) and Amanda Thomas (Southern
Connecticut State University).
Brauer was named the 2013 Northeast-10 Woman of the Year earlier
this month, while Abruzzese and Doyle were finalists for the honor.
The other seven were all nominees for the prestigious conference
award as well.
The NCAA Committee on Women’s Athletics will select 10
honorees from each division, and then it will narrow down those 30
candidates to nine (three from each division).
The 2013 NCAA Woman of the Year will then be announced at the
annual ceremony in Indianapolis on October 20.
