Garden City, N.Y. - The Adelphi University
cross-country/track & field team hosted a 5K on Sunday,
December 13 and collected toys to benefit the Toys for Tots
program. In all the Panthers collected over 50 toys to donate to
the program and had over 60 finishers in the race.
"We had a great turnout and collected over 50 toys for the Toys for
Tots program, which I am extremely excited about," Head Coach Adam
Siepiola stated. "I'd like to thank everyone who participated and
donated toys as well as everyone who helped make this event such a
success and I look forward to doing it all over again next
year."
Sam Fox was the overall champion, setting a course record of 17:18
on the 5K loop that wound it's way through the campus of Adelphi
University. Fox's time was over a minute ahead of second place
finisher Eric De La Haba. Women's champion, Danielle Matteo also
set a course record, covering the distance in 18:53, also over
minute ahead of second, Rita Siminkas.
Kevin Kremler was the top master's finisher, posting a time of
21:23, while Cathy Papandrew took home the women's master's title
with a clocking of 28:28.
The Panthers plan on making this an annual event, holding the 2010
race on Sunday, December 12 with race time again being 9:30am.
