Burlington, Vt. – Assumption College seniors
Michael Colebrook (Leicester, Mass.) and
Leslie Lupien (Pomfret, Conn.) were named
the 2009-2010 Northeast-10 Outstanding Scholar-Athletes of the Year
as selected by the Northeast-10 Faculty Athletic Representative
(FAR) Council. Both student-athletes were honored Monday evening at
the conference's end of the year awards banquet in Burlington, Vt.
"These are two of premier student-athletes in our history," said Ted Paulauskas, Assumption's Director of Athletics. "Both are superb students and are among the leaders in their class. Michael is a premier pitcher on the baseball team, while Leslie was a significant contributor to the success of the basketball program. Michael and Leslie are the prototypes to what we hope all Assumption College student-athletes will aspire."
Colebrook served as team captain his senior season for the Assumption baseball team as he finished his career as the winningest lefthander in school history. In his senior season, Colebrook appeared in 12 games, while starting 11. He finished 5-3 and surrendered 86 hits, 41 runs (32 earned), walked nine batters and struck out 60 through 71.0 innings of work.
He finished his career with a 19-13 record with a 3.49 earned run average and as a two-time All-Northeast-10 selection. Colebrook ranks among the school leaders in several career categories including games started (42), innings (280.2) and strikeouts (195). His 19 wins as a lefty is the most in program history, tied with former Greyhound standout and Hall of Famer Chris Eggert (19-11).
Colebrook, a French and philosophy major, finished with a 3.97 grade point average. He earned ESPN the Magazine/Co-SIDA Academic All-District First Team honors this year and was the recipient of the Rev. Armand Desautels Memorial Award as the Premier Senior Student-Athlete at Assumption. Colebrook earned a 4.0 grade point average in both the fall and spring semesters as a senior.
Lupien was part of the women's basketball team at Assumption and became a defensive standout during her four year career for the Greyhounds. During her career, Lupien averaged 5.1 points per game in 98-career contests, while shooting .461 (170-for-369) from the field and .798 (150-for-188) from the free throw line.
In the classroom, she received a perfect 4.0 GPA in five of her eight semesters and made Dean's List all eight. Lupien, a biology major, finished with a 3.95 grade point average as she graduated summa cum laude. She is also a three-time NE-10 Academic All-Conference selection. Lupien will spend the next year in biotech research in the Boston area before heading to medical school.
With 16 member institutions the Northeast-10 shares the distinction of being the largest Division II conference in the country along with the PSAC and WVIAC. Its 23 championship sports provide athletic opportunities for over 5,500 student-athletes, the largest such program of any Division II conference.
