UMass Lowell Selected First in NE-10 Field Hockey Poll

South Easton, Mass. – The University of Massachusetts Lowell
River Hawks were selected to win the 2007 Northeast-10 Regular
Season Title as determined by the conference’s 11 field
hockey coaches.
The River Hawks just edged last season’s regular season
champion, the Skyhawks of Stonehill College, by four points in the
poll. Both teams received four first-place votes as UMass Lowell
tallied 112 points and Stonehill recorded 108. Bentley College
(13-3, NE-10) finished with the remaining three first-place votes
to finish one point shy of Stonehill with 107 points. In 2006, the
Falcons advanced all the way to the NCAA Division II Championship
game.
Finishing fourth in the poll are the Bulldogs of Bryant University
(9-7, NE-10) who tallied 82 points, which was one more than fifth
place Saint Michael’s College (10-6, NE-10) at 81 points.
The Owls of Southern Connecticut State University (5-11, NE-10)
received 54 points in the poll at sixth place, closely followed by
Assumption College (5-11, NE-10) at 51 points. Merrimack College
(9-7) finished eighth with 49 points, while Franklin Pierce (6-10,
NE-10) came in ninth with 41 points.
Saint Anselm College (22) and American International College (19)
rounded out the poll respectively.
The 2007 season gets underway on Saturday, August 25 with a
non-conference match-up between Stonehill and East Stroudsburg
University. NE-10 action begins on Wednesday, August 29 with three
match-ups slated. Bryant travels to Assumption, while Saint Anselm
visits NCAA Division II Runner-up Bentley and Saint Michael’s
host Stonehill.
Sponsoring 23 championship sports and 15 full-time members, the
Northeast-10 is the second largest NCAA Division II athletic
conference in the nation and sponsors the most championships of any
Division II conference.
