South Easton, Mass. – The University of Massachusetts Lowell
senior midfielder Michelle Harrington (Rockport,
Mass.) has been selected the Northeast-10 Field
Hockey Player of the Year as voted by the conference’s ten
head coaches.
Harrington has helped lead UMass Lowell to the team’s third
Northeast-10 Regular Season Championship in four years. She
currently leads the team and the conference in assists with 17 and
has scored two goals this season. Harrington is also ranked second
among the Division II leaders in assists. Her 48 points are second
best in the conference and she is part of a UMass Lowell offense
that has scored 84 goals which is tops in the Northeast-10. In
addition, Harrington has been named to the All Northeast-10
First-Team for the first time in her collegiate career.
Franklin Pierce University freshman goalkeeper Kristin
Tormollan (Waterville, Maine) has been selected the
2008 Northeast-10 Goalkeeper of the Year. In just her first year of
collegiate play, Tormollan helped lead Franklin Pierce to its first
playoff appearance since 2001. She held opponents to 2.13 goals per
game and has stopped 126 shots for a .746 save percentage. In
addition, Tormollan was named to the All-Northeast-10 First Team
and All-Rookie Team.
UMass Lowell senior midfield Missy Seeley (E.
Hampstead, N.H.) was selected the 2008 Northeast-10
Defensive Player of the Year. Seeley helped lead the UMass Lowell
defense to nine shutout victories and a conference best 19 goals
allowed. She currently has five goals and nine assists on the year
and has been named to the All-Northeast-10 First Team for the
second straight season.
Bentley University freshman Stephanie Sideris
(Watertown, Mass.) has been named the 2008
Northeast-10 Freshman of the Year. In her first year of collegiate
play, Sideris has compiled two goals and three assists for seven
points for a Bentley offense that is ranked fourth in the
conference in goals scored. The Falcons are currently on a 14 game
win streak. In addition, Sideris has been named to the Northeast-10
All-Rookie Team.
UMass Lowell head coach Shannon
Hlebichuk has been voted the 2008 Northeast-10 Coach
of the Year for the sixth straight season by her peers. Hlebichuk
has guided the River Hawks to their third Northeast-10 Regular
Season Championship in four years. UMass Lowell is currently 17-3
overall and finished conference play with a 17-1 record.
With 15 member institutions the Northeast-10 is the second largest
NCAA Division II athletic conference in the nation. Its 23
championship sports provide athletic opportunities for over 5,500
student-athletes, the largest such program of any Division II
conference.
