The 2005 Northeast-10 First Team

MARCELLUS, N.Y. * Bryant University utilized the conference tiebreaking procedure to capture its 20th championship with a win over runner-up Le Moyne College at the Northeast-10 Conference Golf Championship. Le Moyne sophomore Joe Tesori (DeWitt, N.Y./Jamesville-DeWitt) carded a one-over par 145 to garner individual medalist honors in the event held at the 6,700 yard, par 72 Links at Sunset Ridge.

Bryant and Le Moyne finished with team totals of 609 (+33). Le Moyne brought a six-stroke lead into Sunday's final round, but the Dolphins totaled a 316 and Bryant followed up its 299 Saturday total with a 310 round on Sunday. To break the team tie atop the leaderboard, the fifth golfers' score from Sunday's action for between the two squads was compared. Bryant's Kris Hart (East Longmeadow, Mass./East Longmeadow) was three strokes better than Le Moyne's fifth-best Sunday performer.

Tesori, the first round leader with a tournament-best 69 (-3), shot a four-over 76 in Sunday's windy, wet conditions to hold off Bryant's Brenden Smith (North Attleboro, Mass./Bishop Feehan). Smith finished with a two-over 146 (74-72). Le Moyne's Dan McCarthy (Syracuse, N.Y./Christian Brothers Academy) followed up an even-par 72 with a three-over 75 to finish in a tie for third with Southern New Hampshire's Sam Natti (Lisbon, N.H./Lisbon) (75-72-147). Smith and Natti were the only golfers not over par on Sunday.

Saint Rose golfer Jamie Bacon (Port Perry, Ontario/Port Perry) topped all freshmen with a seventh-place finish. He totaled 151 (73-78) to become the first Golden Knights golfer to capture the Freshman of the Year honor.

Tesori's individual crown marked the third Northeast-10 Conference championship for a Le Moyne golfer. Brian Malchak won the event in 1997 and Neil Reidy garnered the Gordon McCullough Memorial Award as the Northeast-10 Conference Player of the Year in 1998.

Bryant has won the last three conference golf championships, while Le Moyne has not won the team portion of the event. Third-place Southern New Hampshire equaled Bryant's 310 for the top round of the day on Sunday. Saint Anselm was fourth, followed by Saint Rose, Bentley, Saint Michael's, Pace, Assumption, Franklin Pierce, UMass Lowell and American International.
