New Haven, Conn. - The Southern Connecticut men's and
women’s indoor track & field teams claimed the 2007
Northeast-10 Conference I
ndoor Track and Field Championship.
The Southern Connecticut's men's squad took first place honors
in 12 of 23 events with a total of 218 points. They finished
ahead of Stonehill College (140) and the University of
Massachusetts Lowell (122). The women's team tallied 225.5
points to clinch the Northeast-10 championship. UMass Lowell
finished second with 166.5 points, followed by Stonehill (77).
Merline Egbert and Kevin Taylor of Southern Connecticut were named
the most valuable athletes of the championship. Egbert
finished first in the long jump (5.80), the triple jump (12.03),
and in the high jump (1.60). Taylor took first in the long
jump with a distance of 7.25 meters.
UMass Lowell's Toni-Marie Henry was named the 2007 Women's Athlete
of the Year, while Doug Caves of UMass Lowell and Robert Keizer of
Southern Connecticut were named the 2007 Men's Co-Athletes of the
Year as voted by the league's coaches.
UMass Lowell's Haley Catarius was tabbed the Northeast-10 Women's Freshman of the Year and Stonehill's Josh Andrews and UMass Lowell's Donte Brown were selected Northeast-10 Men's Co-Freshman of the Year.
Women's Coach of the Year was Jim Barber of Southern
Connecticut, while Jack Maloney of Southern Connecticut earned
Men's Coach of the Year.
