Northeast-10 Men’s Track Athlete of the Week

Vinnie Williams, Stonehill (Sr., Springfield, MA) - Captured top honors in both the 100 meters (10.81) and 200 meters (21.73) at the Brown Springtime Invitational. Was also part of a pair of school-record setting relay teams, as the 4 X 100 squad won the event with a time of 3:19.61 and the 4 X 400 team finished second with a mark of 42.14.

Northeast-10 Women’s Track Athlete of the Week

Nicole Plante, UMass Lowell (Sr., North Adams, MA) - Posted the second-fastest time in the country and broke her own school record in the 5,000 Meters at the Penn Relays. Automatically qualified for the NCAA Championship in her second event this season. Placed ninth overall and second among Division II-III runners with a time of 16:32.56.

Northeast-10 Men’s Track Freshman of the Week

Tim Guerin, UMass Lowell (Fr., Auburn, MA) - Won the 3,000 meter steeplechase at the Brown Springtime Invitational with a time of 9:39.05.

Northeast-10 Women’s Track Freshman of the Week

Letecia Taylor, Southern Connecticut (Fr., Plainfield, NJ) - Finished in first place in the 100 meter hurdles with a time of 14.51 at the Yale Springtime Invitational. Also came in second in the 400 meter hurdles at 1:03.64.

Northeast-10 Men’s Field Athlete of the Week

Nate Potter, UMass Lowell (Sr., Wyoming, RI) - Placed second overall and tops among Division II-III throwers - enhancing his NCAA Championship qualification place - in the hammer throw at the Brown Springtime Invitational. Recorded a distance of 178' 11.0'' to move up to 16th on the Division II list.

Northeast-10 Women’s Field Athlete of the Week

Thatcha DaCosta, Southern Connecticut (Sr., Englewood, NJ) - Finished second in the long jump at the Yale Springtime Invitational with a jump of 5.73 meters (18 feet, 9.75 inches). Also came in second in the triple jump at 11.80 (38, 8.75) as she met NCAA Provisional qualifying marks in both events.

Jacqui Barrett, UMass Lowell (Fr., Woburn, MA) - Top Division II-III thrower (fourth overall) at the Brown Springtime Invitational with a distance of 40' 3.25''

Weekly Honor Roll:


Yvonne Flanders, Assumption (Sr., Dunstable, MA) – Finished first among Northeast-10 participants (seventh overall) in the 5,000-meter race with a time of 19:43.57 at the Brown Spring Invitational.

Joe Kowalczyk, Assumption (Gr., Wilbraham, MA) – Finished first among Northeast-10 participants (fifth overall) in the discuss throw (142’06”/43.33m) and seventh overall in the shot put (44’11.75”/13.71m) at the Brown Spring Invitational.

Barbara Powell, Bentley (Fr., Granby, MA) - At the Brown Invitational, set a Bentley season best in the 800 meters, with a time of 2:23.70. Finished 25th of 50 overall and was third amongst Northeast-10 runners.

Alex Engel, Bryant (Fr., Spencer, MA) - Placed fourth in the 100 meters and second in the 200 meters at the Brown Invitational.

Hafiz Greigre, Bryant (Sr., Attleboro, MA) - Captured the 400-meters in 47.31 at the Brown Invitational, which puts him fourth overall in the nation (Div. II).

Rob Schneider, Bryant (Sr., North Cornwall, CT) - Set a school record in the pole vault with a vault of 14'6" at the Brown Invitational.

Natasha Stevenson, Bryant (Sr., Haverhill, MA) - Placed third in the 200-meters in a time of 25.80 at the Brown Invitational. Also placed 13th in the long jump.

Sarah Brassard, UMass Lowell (So., Oxford, MA) - Placed fourth in the 3,000 meter steeplechase at the Brown Springtime Invitational and set a school record with a time of 12:07.03. Bested the previous mark of 12:43.90 by more than 36 seconds.

Andrew Grange, UMass Lowell (So., Methuen, MA) - Placed second overall and qualified for the NCAA Championship in the 400 meter dash at the Brown Springtime Invitational. Posted a time of 47.76 seconds, which currently ranks 19th on the Division II list.

Heather McCarthy, UMass Lowell (Fr., Burlington, MA) - Placed 13th overall and tops among Division II and III runners in the 100-meter dash at the Brown Springtime Invitational. Also ran a leg on the 4X100 meter relay team, which placed third overall in 49.57 seconds.

Leya Laverriere, Saint Rose (Jr., Biddeford, ME) - Had the top individual finish in the javelin at the Capital District Classic with a career-best toss of 28.09 meters.

Justin Palermo, Saint Rose (Gr., Charlton, NY) –At the Capital District Classic, had a pair of first place finishes and also captured a second place finish. Took the 200-meter dash in a time of 22.86 and was also part of the 4x100 relay squad that broke the tape in 44.24. Crossed the line in 11.29 for a second place finish in the 100-meter dash.

Robert Keizer, Southern Connecticut (Jr., Great Neck, NY) - Took second place in the triple jump at the Penn Relays as he finished at 14.96 which was a NCAA Provisional qualifying mark.

Kevin Taylor, Southern Connecticut (Jr., Bristol, CT) - Finished in second place in the long jump (7.24) at the Penn Relays. Was a NCAA Provisional qualifying mark.

Dana DeIngenis, Stonehill (Sr., Cranston, RI) - First Division II entrant to finish the 1,500 meters at the Brown Springtime Invitational, posting a time of 4:40.95.

Weekly Notes:

SOUTHERN CONNECTICUT: The Southern Connecticut State University shuttle hurdle competitors, Letecia Taylor, Stefanie Tremblay, Keisha Regular and Sasha Mathelier finished sixth overall at the Penn Relays but broke the Southern Connecticut record, previously held by Kelly Kimball Frassinelli, Shanel Batten, Tanya Scott and Tamiko Brown. They beat the record by 5.03 seconds. The 4x800 Men's relay recorded the third fastest time in Southern Connecticut State University history as they finished in fifth place at the 2007 Penn Relays. Mike Cebula, Corey Mosely, Collin Walsh and Justin Wood combined for a time of 7:36.46, which made program history.
