South Easton, Mass. – A total of 20 men and 12 women from the
Northeast-10 have qualified for the NCAA Division II Indoor Track
& Field championships, which will be held next weekend, March
13th and 14th in Houston, Texas as part of the Division II Winter
National Championship Festival.
Among the standout qualifiers are the UMass Lowell women’s
distance medley team which consists of Christina DaLomba, Patricia
Brice, Haley Catarius, Sarah Brassard, and Dana Jamieson. On the
men’s side standouts include Doug Caves and Donte Brown both
from UMass Lowell competing in the 400 meter dash. Also, UMass
Lowell and Stonehill have strong Distance Medley teams. The
Riverhawks team includes Timothy Guerin, Justin Oliver, Daniel
Wang, Ruben Sanca, and Sean Gelinas. While Stonehill’s team
consists of Dan Pilz, Steve Comis, Ben Rumery, and Kevin Gill.
Other notables include the Northeast-10 Athlete of the Year Letecia
Taylor of Southern Connecticut who will be participating in the
60-meter hurdles. New Haven freshman Kevin Downing will be running
the 200-meter dash. Downing was the only male individual to win
multiple events at the Northeast-10 championships.
With 15 member institutions the Northeast-10 is the second largest
NCAA Division II athletic conference in the nation. Its 23
championship sports provide athletic opportunities for over 5,500
student-athletes, the largest such program of any Division II
conference.
