South Easton, Mass. – The Southern
Connecticut men’s indoor track & field team won its
eighth straight Northeast-10 championship, while the University of
Massachusetts Lowell women’s team won back-to-back titles
Thursday night at the Reggie Lewis Center in Boston, Mass.
On the men’s side, Southern Connecticut collected 143 points
to win this year’s championship and were followed closely by
American International College with 139 points. The Yellow Jackets
recorded their highest ever finish at the Northeast-10
Championships. UMass Lowell came in third place with 88 points,
while Stonehill College followed in fourth with 69 points. Adelphi
University competing in its first-ever NE-10 Championship, finished
fifth with 63 points. The College of Saint Rose recorded 44 points
to finish sixth and was followed in order by Bentley University
(24), Assumption College (10) and the University of New Haven
(9).
Senior Diwani Augustine (East Hartford,
Conn.) led the Owls with a first-place finish in the
triple jump and a second place showing in the 55-meter dash.
Augustine recorded a jump of 49’ 4.25” in the triple
jump and finished the 55-meter dash in a time of 6.47. Stonehill
freshman Corey Thomas (Brookline, Mass.)
earned the championship’s most valuable athlete award after
breaking the conference meet record in the 55-meter hurdles (7.51)
and finished second in the high jump with a leap of 7’
0.25”.
On the women’s side, UMass Lowell collected 137 points to
repeat as conference champions. Stonehill College followed with 111
points and finished second, while Southern Connecticut came in a
close third with 108 points. The University of New Haven picked up
69 points finishing ahead of American International College (57)
who rounded out the top five. Adelphi University finished in sixth
place with 48 points and were followed in order by Bentley
University (27), the College of Saint Rose (26) and Assumption
College (6).
UMass Lowell senior Haley Catarius (Marshfield,
Mass.) led the team as she repeated as the 500-meters
champion setting a new NE-10 Championship record with a time of
1:15.16. She was also part of the UMass Lowell 4x400 relay team
that finished first with new conference meet record of 4:00.29. New
Haven junior Shannon Gagne (Meriden,
Conn.) was named the championships most valuable
athlete after collecting four first-place finishes including the
55-meter dash (7.22), 400 meters (56.56), 200 meters (25.36) and
long jump (18’ 4.25”). Gagne set a new meet record in
the 400 and 200 meters.
The Northeast-10 Championship saw 16 records fall, including eight
on the men’s side and eight on the women’s side. For

With 16 member institutions the Northeast-10 shares the
distinction of being the largest Division II conference in the
country along with the PSAC and WVIAC. Its 23 championship sports
provide athletic opportunities for over 5,500 student-athletes, the
largest such program of any Division II conference.
