South Easton, Mass. – A total of 31 student-athletes from the Northeast-10 have qualified for the NCAA Division II Outdoor Track & Field Championships, which will be held May 27-29 at the Irwin Belk Track Complex in Charlotte, N.C. (.)
On the men's side, the Northeast-10 has athletes competing in ten events and one relay, including four athletes participating in the 400-meter dash. UMass Lowell senior Doug Caves (Oxford, Mass.) leads the quartet and is followed by Adelphi University sophomore Mychael Fabio (Huntington, N.Y.), Southern Connecticut State University senior Richard Jackson (New Rochelle, N.Y.) and American International College sophomore Dominic Smith (Bloomfield, Conn.).
UMass Lowell senior Ruben Sanca (Boston, Mass.), the NE-10 Athlete of the Year, will be competing in two events including the 5,000-meter run and the 10,000-meter run. American International freshman Glarius Rop (Eldoret, Kenya) will also be participating in the 10,000-meter run with Sanca. Stonehill College freshmanCorey Thomas (Brookline, Mass.) will compete in two events as well. Thomas, the NE-10 Freshman of the Year, will compete in the 110-meter hurdles and then switch to the field events and partake in the high jump.
On the women's side, the Northeast-10 will have athletes competing in seven individual events and one relay. UMass Lowell senior Haley Catarius (Marshfield, Mass.) and Southern Connecticut senior Letecia Taylor (Plainfield, N.J.) will both be participating in two events each. Catarius will run in the 800-meters and will be part of the UMass Lowell 4x400 relay team. Taylor will take part in each hurdle event, the 100 and 400-meters.
UMass Lowell senior Jacqui Barrett (Woburn, Mass.), who owns the top throw in Division II, will be seeded number one in the shot put event with a season best throw of 49' 11.75". She finished second in the NCAA indoor championships with a throw of 49' 4.25".
