New Haven's Gagne to Compete for Three National Titles

South Easton, Mass. – The NCAA Division II Men's and Women's Track and Field Committee announced the participants for the 2011 NCAA Division II Men's and Women's Indoor Track and Field Championships.

The championships will be held March 11-12 in Albuquerque, N.M., at the Albuquerque Convention Center. Adams State College and the Albuquerque Convention & Visitors Bureau will serve as co-hosts of the championships.

A total of 400 participants -- 200 men and 200 women -- will compete in the championships. Student-athletes qualified by reaching the automatic and provisional standards established for each event.

Among those that qualified was the University of New Haven's Shannon Gagne, who will compete in three events over the weekend. Gagne is the top qualifier in the 200 meter dash (23.60) and the long jump (6.02 meters). She will also compete in the 400 meter dash.

Three other athletes from the NE-10 qualified to compete in two events. American International College's Dominic Smith (200 meter dash, 400 meter dash); the University of New Haven's Ada Udaya (60 meter dash, 200 meter dash); and Stonehill College's Corey Thomas (high jump, 60 meter hurdles) will each be competing for multiple national titles.

Seven different Northeast-10 member institutions will have participants in the national championships. Student-athletes representing American Int'l, Bentley University, The University of Massachusetts Lowell, New Haven, The College of Saint Rose, Southern Connecticut State University, and Stonehill will all be heading to New Mexico.
