Turlock, Calif. - University of New Haven women's track and field sprinter Shannon Gagne added two national championships to her amazing 2011 season Saturday night at the NCAA Division II Track and Field National Championships in Turlock, Calif. Gagne won the 200 meter and 400 meter dashes at a rain-soaked track Cal. State Stanislaus.

The Meriden native added to her three indoor national championships, with two championships on Saturday evening. She posted a time of 53.62 seconds in the 400 meter dash, bettering second place by 0.12 seconds. Later in the night, Gagne won the 200 meter dash in a photo finish with a time of 23.43 seconds. She beat the second place sprinter by 0.04 seconds.

Gagne, who became the first women's track and field national champion during the indoor season, completes her career with another record-setting performance. The weather in Turlock was rainy and windy all evening Saturday, making conditions less than favorable for all the participants. Gagne also earned All-American honors three more times during the 2011 outdoor national championships, increasing her career All-American honors to more than 10.

Gagne will go down in the Chargers' record book as the most decorated women's track and field student-athlete ever. She holds eight New Haven records and has been the NE-10 Track and Field Athlete of the Year numerous times.
