Southern Connecticut Chosen to Win Both Men’s and Women’s Northeast-10 Outdoor Track and Field Titles

South Easton, Mass. – Both of Southern Connecticut State University's outdoor track and field teams have been chosen by the Northeast-10 Conference's head coaches to take the 2011 regular season titles. The Owls received 86 total votes and six first place votes on the men's side, and 92 total votes and eight first place votes on the women's side.

Both teams also captured the men's and women's indoor titles at this year's Northeast-10 Conference Championship held at the Reggie Lewis Center. Remarkably, it was the 17th straight title for the men, while it was the second consecutive title for the women.

Taking second place in the respective polls is The University of Massachusetts Lowell. The men received 71 total votes including two first place votes, while the women received 83 points along with the remaining three first place votes.

In third place on the men's side is American International College with 68 points and two first place votes. For the women, Stonehill College came in at third with 73 total points.

The only other team to receive first place votes was Stonehill's men's team, who ranked fourth in this year's preseason coaches' poll, and received a total of 67 points. Following Stonehill on the men's side are The College of Saint Rose (50), Bentley University (40), Adelphi University (38), University of New Haven (30), Assumption College (19), Pace University (16), and Merrimack College (11).

Following Stonehill on the women's side are American Int'l (59), New Haven (53), Bentley (44), Saint Rose (42), Adelphi (41), Pace (20), Assumption (16), and Merrimack (12).

The Northeast-10 is an association of 16 NCAA Division II colleges and universities located in New England and New York that are committed to supporting balanced academic and athletic opportunities for more than 6,500 student-athletes. Each year, 4,500 of those student-athletes compete in Conference championships in 23 sports, making the NE-10 the largest DII conference in the country. Leading the way in the classroom, on the field and within the community, the Northeast-10 is proud of its comprehensive program and the experience it provides student-athletes.
