Southern Connecticut Men, UMass Lowell Women Unanimous Top Picks for Outdoor Track & Field Championship

South Easton, Mass. The Owls of Southern Connecticut State University are favorites in the Northeast-10 Conference men's outdoor track & field preseason coaches' poll.

The Owls received 64 points and all eight first place votes. The University of Massachusetts Lowell received 56 and to take second place.

Stonehill College (45 points), Bryant University (43), and Bentley College (32) rounded out the top five.

The remainder of the poll included Assumption College (24), The College of Saint Rose (15) and Pace University (9).

Southern Connecticut won the NE-10 championship in 2002, 2003 and 2004. In 2005, the Northeast-10 Outdoor Track and Field Championship was cancelled due to inclement weather.

On the women's side, the River Hawks are favored to claim the 2006 Northeast-10 Championship in women's outdoor track & field. UMass Lowell also earned 64 points and eight first place votes, while Southern Connecticut earned 56 points to place second in the poll.

Stonehill (48), Bryant (37) and Bentley (35) rounded out the top five. The remainder of the poll included Assumption (23), Saint Rose (17) and Pace (8).

The Northeast-10 Championship meet takes place May 6.
