SMITHFIELD, RI - The Stonehill College men's cross country team captured its second-straight Northeast-10 Conference Championship Sunday, holding off UMass Lowell by five points, 33-38.
Lowell's Patrick Morasse took top honors on the men's side, finishing first overall in a time of 26 minutes, 38 seconds, just ahead of Bentley College's Ryan Agnew who crossed the line in 26:44. Morasse was second overall in the past two conference championships, but turned in a solid performance on a rain-soaked course at Bryant University, to pick up his first conference individual title.
Stonehill College's Khalid Abdi and David Metzger were third and fourth respectively with Abdi finishing in a time of 26:57 and Metzger clocking in at 27:00.
Stonehill coach Karen Boen was named the Northeast-10 Men's Cross Country Coach of the Year. The Male Freshman of the Year honor was given to Ruben Sanca while teammate Morasse was recognized as the 2005 Male Athlete of the Year.
