UMass Lowell Women Win Northeast-10 Women's Cross Country Title

The UMass Lowell women captured the women's title, claiming victory by just one point over Stonehill, 33-34.

UMass Lowell snapped Stonehill's run of five-straight conference championships by edging the Skyhawks by just a single point, 33-34. Nicole Plante, second at last year's conference championships in Colchester, Vt., took top invididual honors as the junior finished in a time of 19:10.

Plante finished 28 seconds ahead of runner-up Caitlyn Clark of Assumption College's who finished in a time of 19:38. Stonehill placed runners third, fourth, and fifth respectively with Kate Buckley crossing in third in a time of 19:42. Erin Smith (19:48) and Dana DeIngenis was fifth in 20:06.

UMass Lowell coach Gary Gardner was named the 2005 Northeast-10 Women's Cross Country Coach of the Year. UMass Lowell swept freshman of the Year honors with Emily Thomas earning Freshman of the Year honors on the women's side and Ruben Sanca earning Male Freshman of the Year in the NE-10 for 2005. Plante earned the 2005 Female Athlete of the Year honors as this year's top finisher.
