Colchester, Vt. – The University of Massachusetts Lowell
claimed both the men's and women's team championship titles at the
annual Northeast-10 Cross Country Championships hosted by Saint
Michael's College.
Senior Ruben Sanca (Boston, Mass.)
helped lead the Riverhawks to the team title as he claimed the
men’s individual championship with a time of 24:33 in the
eight-kilometer race, while on the women's side Bentley senior
Melissa Nash (Marshfield, Mass.) claimed
the individual championship with a time of 18:19 in the
five-kilometer race. Both Sanca and Nash were runner-ups in last
year’s championship.
The UMass Lowell men claimed their third straight Northeast-10
Team Championship with 31 points, besting second-place Stonehill
College by 21 points. The Skyhawks finished with 52. Southern
Connecticut State University took third place with 64 points, while
Merrimack College followed in fourth with 139 points. The College
of Saint Rose rounded out the top- five team finishes with 145
points.
On the women’s side, UMass Lowell edged out Stonehill by a
slight margin (46-51) to claim the team championship. Saint Rose
took third place with 98 points while Bentley (154) and Le Moyne
(178) rounded out the top five respectively.
Individually, Stonehill’s Kevin Gill (Brockton,
Mass.) finished second behind Sanca with a time of
25:04, while Southern Connecticut’s Chris Croff
(Lisbon, Conn.) finished third with a time of 25:12.
UMass Lowell’s Rex Radloff (Dedham,
Mass.) (25:21) and Angus MacDonald
(Metheun, Mass.) (25:23) each finished fourth and
fifth respectively.
In the women’s race, UMass Lowell’s
Christina DaLomba (Marston Mills, Mass.)
finished with a time of 18:30 to take home a second-place finish
just ahead of teammate Sarah Brassard (Oxford,
Mass.) who finished at 18:38. Stonehill freshman
Jill Alves (Whitman, Mass.) finished
fourth with a time of 18:42, while sophomore Lyra Clark
(Nashua, N.H.) from UMass Lowell rounded out the top
five with a time of 18:45.
With 15 member institutions the Northeast-10 is the second largest
NCAA Division II athletic conference in the nation. Its 23
championship sports provide athletic opportunities for over 5,500
student-athletes, the largest such program of any Division II
conference.
