Stonehill's Women's Team and UMass Lowell's Men's Team Awarded Championships

South Easton, Mass. – The Stonehill College women's team and the University of Massachusetts Lowell Men's team earned victories at the 30th Annual Northeast-10 Conference Cross Country Championship on Sunday on the campus of Stonehill College.

The Stonehill women's team had two top ten finishers, and six runners finish in the top twenty to earn the title. Jill Alves paced the way for the Skyhawks, finishing second in the five kilometer race with a time of 18:26. Stonehill's final tally of 56 points was 41 points better than runner-up UMass Lowell's total of 97 for the championship.

American Int'l's Jeptui Cherutich claimed the women's individual title with a final time of 18:02, 24 seconds better than the runner-up, Alves.

On the men's side, UMass Lowell had two of the top three finishers, and three of the top six in the eight kilometer race. The River Hawks total of 50 for the meet was 24 points better than runner-up Stonehill's total of 74.

Individually, American Int'l's Glarius Rop won the title with a final time of 24:12, eight seconds better than second-place finisher Jeff Veiga from UMass Lowell.

The Northeast-10 is an association of 16 NCAA Division II colleges and universities located in New England and New York that are committed to supporting balanced academic and athletic opportunities for more than 6,500 student-athletes.
