Franklin Pierce, Southern Connecticut Top Northeast-10 Baseball Preseason Coaches’ Poll

MANSFIELD, Mass. -  Franklin Pierce and Southern Connecticut were selected by the Northeast-10 Conference baseball coaches to win their respective divisions of the league the league announced today.

Franklin Pierce finished 35-18 a year ago, including 20-7 in NE-10 play. The Ravens, a perennial east region power, were a part of the NCAA Baseball Championship field during the 2014 season. They have won the Northeast Division regular season title each of the last three years.

 Southern Connecticut won the Southwest Division regular season title a year ago, as they finished 13-5 in league play and 24-15-1 overall.

Both teams return numerous all-conference performers from last year's squads. Franklin Pierce returns first-team selections Conor Gleason and Matt Walsh, second-teamers Kyle Hood and Brendan O'Rourke, and third-team selection John Razzino.  The Owls return Nick Baviello and Matt Burns, who were both first-team selections, as well as third-teamer Mike Yerina.

Franklin Pierce just edged out Southern New Hampshire in the Northeast Division voting.  The Ravens (8) received two more first place votes than the Penmen (6).  Southewest Division voting was equally as close, as Southern Connecticut received four more points than New Haven.

Interestingly, four of the seven teams in the Southwest Division received first place votes from the league's 15 head coaches.  Southern Conncecticut, New Haven, Le Moyne, and Adelphi were all selected by at least one coach to win the division title.
