2016 NE-10 All-Conference, Award Winners Revealed

MANSFIELD, Mass. – For the second season in a row, Franklin Pierce's Jay Jabs has been named the Northeast-10 Player of the Year, as the league office announced its baseball all-conference teams and major award winners for the 2016 season on Tuesday.

For a complete list of all-conference members and award winners, as voted upon by the league's head coaches, please see below.

Jabs anchored the Ravens' offense all season long, hitting for power and average while handling duties at third base and making six appearances on the mound as well. The Schwenksville, Pa., native capped off the regular season among the league leaders in nearly every major offensive category, including leading the conference in home runs and slugging percentage for the second straight year, hitting 12 long balls and slugging .676 over 48 games.

Jabs, a first team all-conference selection for the second season in a row at third, also led the NE-10 in RBI with 57, while tying for the league lead with 35 walks and 121 total bases during the regular season. He was second in batting average (.380), runs scored (55) and on-base percentage (.486). Jabs was also third in the league with 68 base hits and added 16 stolen bases to his credit while going 2-1 with 1 save and a 2.84 ERA on the mound. Only a junior, Jabs is the first repeat recipient of the NE-10 Baseball Player of the Year award since Bentley's Mike Hill did so from 1996-1997.

Southern New Hampshire's Tim Viehoff was selected as the NE-10 Pitcher of the Year after a stellar season on the bump for the Penmen. Viehoff made 11 starts during the regular season, tying for second in the conference in wins with an 8-1 record. The left-hander was third in the NE-10 in both strikeouts (88) and ERA (2.12) while tossing 76.1 innings, fifth most in the league. Viehoff, a native of Derry, N.H., picks up his second all-conference nod with the first coming back in 2014.

Le Moyne's Nick Place and Sam Walsh garnered the league's Rookie Hitter and Pitcher of the Year accolades, respectively. Place, a native of Towanda, Pa., tied for seventh in the NE-10 with six home runs during the regular season while hitting .299 and driving in 33 runs at the plate in addition to a perfect fielding percentage. Walsh, a Syracuse, N.Y., native, capped the regular season by finishing in the top 10 in both wins (6-1 overall) and ERA (2.63) over 61.2 innings while striking out 45.

Southern New Hampshire's Scott Loiseau was chosen as the NE-10 Coach of the Year in his first season back with the Penmen after a one-year absence. Returning to Southern New Hampshire after a stint as an assistant at Oklahoma, Loiseau led the Penmen to a 41-5 overall mark, 24-3 in the conference and 18-3 in division play through the regular season, already an improvement of 10 wins from last season. Loiseau, the NE-10 Coach of the Year in 2014, guided his squad to the No. 2 seed in the NE-10 Championship while his Penmen climbed the ranks in the national polls throughout the season.

Southern New Hampshire had the most overall student-athletes honored with 12, while Franklin Pierce had nine and Le Moyne had six. Franklin Pierce, Pace and Southern New Hampshire each led the way with four first-team honorees.
