South Easton, Mass. – Merrimack College, the University of Massachusetts Lowell, and American International College have all been selected to participate in the NCAA Field Hockey National Championship Tournament, which begins play this Saturday, November 5.
Merrimack (17-2, 10-0 NE-10), ranked third nationally in the latest National Field Hockey Coaches Association poll, has a spot in the semifinal round after being named the top seed in the North Region. Meanwhile, No. 5 UMass Lowell (17-3, 9-1 NE-10) hosts No. 8 American Int'l (12-8, 6-4 NE-10) in a first round matchup on Saturday with the winner to take on the Warriors at Merrimack.
Merrimack, UMass Lowell, and American Int'l also made up the top three spots – in that order – in last week's North Regional Rankings.
On the other side of the bracket, No. 4 West Chester will travel to No. 2 Shippensburg with the winner set to face No. 1 Bloomsburg in the semifinals.
UMass Lowell won last year's NCAA Division II National Championship, defeating Shippensburg 1-0 in Louisville, Kentucky.
