FIELD HOCKEY CHAMPIONSHIP CENTRAL

Saint Anselm and LIU Post each registered shutout wins Friday, and the two will meet in Sunday's Northeast-10 Conference Championship Final

#1 Saint Anselm 1, #5 Merrimack 0 | BOXSCORE

MANCHESTER, N.H. – Saint Anselm junior Mia Vecchione scored the game-winning goal in the 49th minute of play to propel the top-seeded Hawks to a 1-0 victory over No. 5 seed Merrimack on Friday afternoon in a Northeast-10 Conference Field Hockey Semifinal game held at Grappone Stadium in Manchester, N.H.

The Hawks improve to 16-3 overall and advance to take on No. 2 seed LIU Post on Sunday afternoon at 1 p.m. at Grappone Stadium.

The game doubles as a top-10 matchup as the Hawks were ranked #3 in the latest NFHCA Coaches Poll, while LIU Post was ranked #5. The two teams met back on Oct. 1, with the then-ranked #1 Pioneers pulling out the 2-1 victory in overtime in Brookville, N.Y.

#2 LIU Post 3, #3 Stonehill 0 | BOXSCORE

BROOKVILLE, N.Y. - Backed by a five-point day from sophomore forward/midfielder Emily Miller, second-seeded LIU Post defeated third-seeded Stonehill, 3-0, in a Northeast-10 Conference Championship semifinal contest Friday at Bethpage Federal Credit Union Stadium.

The Pioneers (14-3), who scored three goals in a span of 3:56 in the second half, advance to their third NE-10 Championship final in the last four seasons.

Miller put the green and gold ahead in the 53rd minute, when she drove past two defenders and beat Skyhawks' (14-5) sophomore goalie Sara Freedman inside the right post for the game's opening goal.

Then, in the 56th minute, the hosts got behind the Stonehill defense for a 2-on-1 rush. From there, sophomore forward/midfielder Molly Cunha played a cross to Miller, who one-timed a shot past Freedman for a 2-0 advantage.

Less than a minute later, the Pioneers added to their lead yet again. Sophomore forward/midfielder Tarryn Morris settled a pass from Miller and fired a shot into an open cage, making it a 3-0 game.

Between the pipes, senior goaltender Ericka Parks made three saves in the win for LIU Post. Freedman stopped five shots for Stonehill.
