Embrace The Championship: LIU Post Rolls, Assumption Uses Extra Time to Pull Upset During 1st Round of NE10 Championship

The defending champion Pioneers impressed behind Emily Miller's six goals, while Assumption upset third-seeded Pace during the First Round of the 2017 Northeast-10 Conference Field Hockey Championship. Here's how the action went down Tuesday afternoon -

4 LIU Post 9, #5 Merrimack 3

BROOKVILLE, N.Y. – Junior Emily Miller tallied a career-high six goals to match the program's single-season goal record, as fourth-seeded LIU Post earned a 9-3 victory over the fifth-seeded Merrimack on Tuesday afternoon.

With the win the Pioneers, now 16-3 on the year, advance to the semifinal round of the NE-10 Conference Championship where they'll meet the championship's top seed, Saint Anselm, in a rematch of last year's champiosnhip final.

Freshman Rachel Vellis (16-3) picked up the win for the Pioneers in an eight-save effort. Merrimack's Katharina Ohmen recorded eight saves as well.

The Pioneers semifinal will take place on Friday, November 5 at 6:00 pm in Manchester, N.H. The winner advances to the tournament final on Sunday, November 5.

6 Assumption 2, #3 Pace 1, OT

Senior Allison Sheahan scored two goals and broke the Assumption career goals record propelling the No. 6 seed Assumption to a 2-1 overtime victory over No. 3 seed Pace in the First Round game on Tuesday. 

Pace got on the board first as Lisette de Bruin took the ball out on a penalty corner and then notched a goal at 25:33 to take the 1-0 lead and score the only goal in the first half. 

With 4:52 left in overtime, Assumption freshman Isabel Primack crossed a ball to Sheahan in the circle. Sheahan chipped the ball over Pace's Lesly Sanchez Alvarez to end the game 2-1 and send the Hounds to the NE10 semifinals, where they'll take on Stonehill on Friday.

Championship (to be held at highest remaining seed) ­
Game 5:  Game 3 winner vs. Game 4 winner
