EMBRACE THE VICTORY: Stonehill & Franklin Pierce Earn NE10 Semifinal Upsets!

MANSFIELD, Mass. – No. 3 Stonehill opened Saturday's playoff action with a dramatic 4-3 overtime victory and Franklin Pierce made it a night of overtime upset victories as the fourth seeded Ravens took down the No. 1 Assumption 4-3 in overtime on Saturday night. Stonehill will host Franklin Pierce in the NE10 Championship on Saturday evening at 6:40 PM in Warrior Ice Arena.

Stonehill will be making its fifth appearance in the NE10 Championship and the Skyhawks' first since they won back in 2015-16. Franklin Pierce, meanwhile, is just making its second-ever appearance in the NE10 Title game. The Ravens last appeared in the championship game in 2013.

WORCESTER, Mass. – Chris Stevenson picked up a rebound off a blocked shot midway through the first overtime to complete the Franklin Pierce comeback and secure a 4-3 overtime victory against the top seeded Greyhounds on Saturday night at Buffone Arena. 

How It Happened:

  • Assumption jumped out to a 1-0 lead a 4:52 of the first on a goal by Michael Zampanti and then extended its lead to 2-0 three minutes later thanks to freshman Colin Philippon.
  • Franklin Pierce came back in the second, scoring just 1:03 into the period and then tying up the contest at 8:16 on a goal by Stephen Jacobs.
  • The Greyhounds broke the tie just 27 seconds into the third on a goal by John Pigott. The Ravens evened it up on a powerplay attempt eight minutes later. Both teams had opportunities in the final 11 minutes, but neither team could score to send the game to overtime.
  • In OT, Chris Stevenson picked up a shot that was blocked and managed to slip it underneath David Zulauf's pads at 8:25 to send the Ravens to the NE10 Championship.

By the Numbers:

  • Stephen Jacobs scored twice for the Ravens while Ian Wallace made 36 saves. 
  • Assumption outshot Franklin Pierce 39-28 in the contest.

Stonehill 4, Saint Michael's 3 – OT | Box Score | Stonehill Recap

SOUTH BURLINGTON, Vt. -  Stonehill College ice hockey team secured its spot in the Northeast-10 Conference Tournament Championship, as senior Ryan Meade scored the game winner in overtime, 4-3, against Saint Michael's College Saturday night in the semifinal round at Cairns Arena.

By the Numbers:

  • Stonehill's (12-11-5, 8-6-4 NE10) Brendan Nehmer, Jack Scannell, Nicholas Godin, and Meade scored the goals in the victory, while senior goaltender Matthew Schoen stopped 34 saves in the game.
  • Teddy McElaney, Mike Seoane, Colin Quinn, Michael Seibold, Kayser Raei, Charles Page, Jack Hall, and Zachary Frament all assisted in the goals.
  • Saint Michael's College (15-9-3, 11-5-2 NE10) Jeremy Routh, Sel Narby, and Thomas Flack recorded the goals, while goaltender Tim Decker registered 28 saves.
  • The Skyhawks were outshot by the Purple Knights 37-32, as Stonehill went 0-for-4 in power play opportunities and Saint Michael's went 2-for-6 in the loss.

 How It Happened:

  • On a two-on-two opportunity, two minutes into overtime, Stonehill charged down the ice as Hall sent the puck over to Wright who went for the initial shot. The puck then went loose and Meade skated between the circles finding the back of the net for his eighth goal of the season.
