Adelphi Wins First Ever Northeast-10 Volleyball Championship

Easton, Mass. – Third-seeded Adelphi University won the 2011 Northeast-10 Conference Volleyball Championship on Saturday night with a 3-0 victory (25-21, 25-20, 25-16) over The College of Saint Rose at Merkert Gym on the campus of Stonehill College.

With the victory, Adelphi (22-7, 12-3 NE-10) earns an automatic bid to compete for the national championship. The field for the 2011 NCAA Division II Volleyball Championship will be announced on Sunday, November 13 at 10:00 p.m.

Adelphi libero Bianca Hernandez was named the championship's Most Outstanding Player after totaling a match-high 14 digs in the title game.

Adelphi last appeared in the championship contest just two years ago but fell short of the conference crown to the University of Massachusetts Lowell. For Saint Rose (18-9, 11-4 NE-10), it marked the program's first trip to the conference title game since 2006 when it fell to Bentley University.

Adelphi'sPatawe Simms totaled a match-high 11 kills while teammate Chelsea Overholt contributed 10 kills and nine digs. Kaitlyn DeStefano had eight kills and Emily Dorko chipped in with seven of her own. Alexandra Kahen contributed nine digs while setter Katie Bryson totaled a match-high 32 assists in the championship victory.

For Saint Rose, Aubrey Bobo led the way with eight kills in the match for the Golden Knights. Kaitlyn Jasnica, Sarah Kahrs and Chelsea Tyler all had six kills apiece. Tori Daniels led Saint Rose with 11 digs in the losing effort and also contributed 13 assists while Ariana Wilson totaled 12 assists and six digs.

Saint Rose's Katy Daniels was named to the All Championship team following a nine-dig effort in the title match.
