Longtime Assistant Tabbed to Take Over at Saint Rose

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

ALBANY, N.Y. - Jim Thomas was named the head coach of the men's and women's cross country teams at Saint Rose.

Since 2004, he served as an assistant coach with the Golden Knights. Thomas has been actively involved in recruiting and helped design and implement a running program that has placed the Golden Knights on the fast track.

"We are fortunate to have Coach Thomas back with the program this season serving as head coach,” said Cathy Haker, Director of Athletics and Recreation, at the time of his promotion.  “Jim Thomas served as assistant coach for the Saint Rose men's and women's cross country program for the past 13 seasons and has a thorough knowledge of the ins and outs of the program. Jim was also an integral part of the success of two women's teams that qualified for and competed at the NCAA XC National Championships (2010 in Louisville, KY and 2012 in Joplin, MO)."

Thomas also serves as head coach of the Hudson Mohawk Road Runners Club. He is responsible for designing and implementing a running program that allows individuals with no previous running experience to complete a marathon or half-marathon in 14-17 weeks.

An avid runner, Thomas was the 172nd individual in the United States to successfully complete a marathon in all 50 states plus the District of Columbia. He embarked on this journey in January of 1998 and completed it in June of 2003. In addition, Thomas has run four ultra-marathons that covered 50 miles, and continues to run long distances year-round.

Thomas is an Enrolled Agent and an accredited tax advisor. As an Enrolled Agent, he is a Sole Proprietor serving a clientele of 500 individuals and small businesses in all phases of tax planning, analysis, and assistance. Additionally, he has been a member of the Board of Directors for Capital Communications Federal Credit Union in Albany since 1984.

Thomas received an A.A.S. from Hudson Valley Community College prior to earning a B.S. in accounting and economics from Russell Sage College. He also holds an M.B.A. with a major in finance from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute.
