MANSFIELD, Mass. – The Northeast-10 had a pair of student-athletes earn Athlete of the Year honors from the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association this week after impressive performances in the NCAA Division II East Regional last weekend.
American International's Ezra Mutai won the individual title at the East Regionalwhen he covered the 10K tract in 30:58.4. He is undefeated this season with victories coming at the NE10 Championships, the NEICAAA Championships and at the Ted Owen Invitational. He helped AIC win the NE10 Championship last month and will travel to the NCAA Championships with his team to race on Nov. 23.
Stonehill's Sam Curtin, won the individual title at the East Regional in 22:19.1. Earlier this season she ran well at the NE10 Cross Country Championships, where she finished third and helped the Skyhawks capture their 11th consecutive NE10 Title. Curtin and the rest of her team will compete at the NCAA Championships next weekend.
Karen Boen of Stonehill was selected as the East Region Women's Coach of the Year after she led the Skyhawks to the team title at the East Region Championship with 26 points. Stonehill also won the team title at the Northeast-10 Conference Championships with 36 points to claim her second straight Coach of the Year honors.
