Ninety-two
student-athletes earn recognition
for combined performance on field, in classroom
SOUTH EASTON, Mass. – The Northeast-10 Conference has announced its Academic All-Conference teams for the 2012-13 spring athletic season, as a total of 92 student-athletes representing 15 of the 16 Northeast-10 institutions have been honored with the recognition.
The 92 individuals were recognized for their outstanding achievements in the classroom and on the playing field in baseball, men’s golf, men’s and women’s lacrosse, softball, men’s and women’s tennis and men’s and women’s indoor track & field.
For a complete list of the Academic All-Conference selections, which are chosen by a committee vote of Faculty Athletic Representatives (FARs) and other athletic administrators, please see below.
To be eligible for selection to the Northeast-10 Academic
All-Conference Teams, a student-athlete must have met or exceeded
the following minimum requirements: 1) participated in at least
half of the team's competitions and been either a starter or
significant contributor; 2) achieved a 3.30 cumulative grade point
average (on a 4.0 scale); and 3) completed at least one academic
year at his/her current institution.
Adelphi University, which won the 2012-13 Northeast-10
Presidents’ Cup, led the way with 12 selections across six
sports, including three apiece for women’s lacrosse and
softball.
Stonehill College was second with 11 honorees, including five from
its men’s outdoor track & field team, while Le Moyne
College and the University of Massachusetts Lowell both had nine
recipients. Bentley University and the University of New Haven each
had eight.
Among the Academic All-Conference recipients in the sport of
baseball was Merrimack senior Joe
Mantoni, a Northeast-10 Second Team pick who was
drafted by the Cincinnati Reds in the 18th round of last
month’s Major League Baseball (MLB) First-Year Player Draft.
Le Moyne junior Pat Wiese was also
honored after earning 2013 Northeast-10 First Team honors.
Bentley seniors Matt Michel and
Dan McQueen were among the six golf
selections. Both were named Capital One Academic All-America
At-Large selections last month.
Among the 17 women’s lacrosse honorees, which was the most
of any of the spring Academic All-Conference Teams, Le Moyne had
five selections, including four Northeast-10 First Team choices in

Molly Marbut and junior
Victoria Nies.
Also among the Academic All-Conference choices for women’s
lacrosse were Adelphi junior Devan Crimi,
a unanimous Northeast-10 First Team pick; Bentley junior
Ally Dorman, the 2013 Northeast-10
Goalkeeper of the Year; New Haven senior Rachel
Resnick, the 2013 Northeast-10 Defensive Player of
the Year; and Stonehill senior Kayla
Green, a Capital One Academic All-America At-Large
selection.
Southern Connecticut State University senior Brittany
Bucko – one of 13 Academic All-Conference
selections for softball – also received Capital One Academic
All-America honors. She was also named the Northeast-10 Player of
the Year in 2012.
Five Northeast-10 Softball First Team selections from this past
season were also named Academic All-Conference in the sport:
Adelphi junior Katie Andrews and senior
Emily Dorko, American Int’l senior
Stephanie Belanger, Le Moyne junior
Sarah Harrison and UMass Lowell senior
Brianna Mahoney.
Adelphi senior Andreas Hammar, one of
seven Academic All-Conference selections in men’s tennis, was
named the Northeast-10 Player of the Year in 2012 prior to earning
Capital One Academic All-America At-Large honors this past
year.
Merrimack sophomore Vince Bellino, a
2013 Northeast-10 First Team selection, was also named Academic
All-Conference in the sport.
Among the notable women’s tennis student-athletes selected
as Academic All-Conference was Stonehill
junior Paige Frost, a Northeast-10
First Team selection. Adelphi seniors Maria
Toft and Samra
Redzematovic, Southern New Hampshire University
junior Amanda Albuquerque, and Saint
Michael's College senior Hannah Benoit
were all Second Team selections in addition to garnering Academic
All-Conference recognition.
Of the 11 student-athletes recognized for men’s outdoor
track & field, three were NCAA Division II All-Americans. They
included New Haven senior David Thomas,
who was also named the 2013 Northeast-10 Men’s Outdoor Track
& Field Athlete of the Year. Two All-Americans from So.
Connecticut also made the list in junior AJ
Guerra and senior Logan
Sharpe.
Bentley senior John Drago and UMass
Lowell senior Scott Boiko, both of whom
were recently named Capital One Academic All-America, were also
named Academic All-Conference.
A total of 14 student-athletes garnered Academic All-Conference
accolades in the sport of women’s outdoor track & field,
headlined by New Haven sophomore Ada
Udaya, who earned three All-America performances at
the 2013 NCAA Outdoor Championships and was named the 2013
Northeast-10 Women’s Outdoor Track & Field Athlete of the
Year.
Also honored were Bentley seniors Amy
Varsell and Caitlin Fahey
and American Int’l senior Starr
Nathan, as all three participated at the NCAA
Championships and also received Capital One Academic All-America
honors.
The Northeast-10 Conference is an association of 16 NCAA
Division II colleges and universities located in New England and
New York that is committed to supporting balanced academic and
athletic opportunities for more than 6,000 student-athletes. Each
year, 4,000 of those student-athletes compete in conference
championships in 23 sports, making the NE-10 the largest DII
conference in the country. Leading the way in the classroom, on the
field and within the community, the Northeast-10 is proud of its
comprehensive program and the experience it provides
student-athletes.
