Ninety-two student-athletes earn recognition
for combined performance on field, in classroom

SOUTH EASTON, Mass. – The Northeast-10 Conference has announced its Academic All-Conference teams for the 2012-13 spring athletic season, as a total of 92 student-athletes representing 15 of the 16 Northeast-10 institutions have been honored with the recognition.

The 92 individuals were recognized for their outstanding achievements in the classroom and on the playing field in baseball, men’s golf, men’s and women’s lacrosse, softball, men’s and women’s tennis and men’s and women’s indoor track & field.

For a complete list of the Academic All-Conference selections, which are chosen by a committee vote of Faculty Athletic Representatives (FARs) and other athletic administrators, please see below.

To be eligible for selection to the Northeast-10 Academic All-Conference Teams, a student-athlete must have met or exceeded the following minimum requirements: 1) participated in at least half of the team's competitions and been either a starter or significant contributor; 2) achieved a 3.30 cumulative grade point average (on a 4.0 scale); and 3) completed at least one academic year at his/her current institution.

Adelphi University, which won the 2012-13 Northeast-10 Presidents’ Cup, led the way with 12 selections across six sports, including three apiece for women’s lacrosse and softball.

Stonehill College was second with 11 honorees, including five from its men’s outdoor track & field team, while Le Moyne College and the University of Massachusetts Lowell both had nine recipients. Bentley University and the University of New Haven each had eight.

Among the Academic All-Conference recipients in the sport of baseball was Merrimack senior Joe Mantoni, a Northeast-10 Second Team pick who was drafted by the Cincinnati Reds in the 18th round of last month’s Major League Baseball (MLB) First-Year Player Draft. Le Moyne junior Pat Wiese was also honored after earning 2013 Northeast-10 First Team honors.

Bentley seniors Matt Michel and Dan McQueen were among the six golf selections. Both were named Capital One Academic All-America At-Large selections last month.

Among the 17 women’s lacrosse honorees, which was the most of any of the spring Academic All-Conference Teams, Le Moyne had five selections, including four Northeast-10 First Team choices in senior Brenna Bauer, junior Megan Collins, sophomore Molly Marbut and junior Victoria Nies.

Also among the Academic All-Conference choices for women’s lacrosse were Adelphi junior Devan Crimi, a unanimous Northeast-10 First Team pick; Bentley junior Ally Dorman, the 2013 Northeast-10 Goalkeeper of the Year; New Haven senior Rachel Resnick, the 2013 Northeast-10 Defensive Player of the Year; and Stonehill senior Kayla Green, a Capital One Academic All-America At-Large selection.

Five Northeast-10 Softball First Team selections from this past season were also named Academic All-Conference in the sport: Adelphi junior Katie Andrews and senior Emily Dorko, American Int’l senior Stephanie Belanger, Le Moyne junior Sarah Harrison and UMass Lowell senior Brianna Mahoney.

Adelphi senior Andreas Hammar, one of seven Academic All-Conference selections in men’s tennis, was named the Northeast-10 Player of the Year in 2012 prior to earning Capital One Academic All-America At-Large honors this past year.

Merrimack sophomore Vince Bellino, a 2013 Northeast-10 First Team selection, was also named Academic All-Conference in the sport.

Of the 11 student-athletes recognized for men’s outdoor track & field, three were NCAA Division II All-Americans. They included New Haven senior David Thomas, who was also named the 2013 Northeast-10 Men’s Outdoor Track & Field Athlete of the Year. Two All-Americans from So. Connecticut also made the list in junior AJ Guerra and senior Logan Sharpe.

Bentley senior John Drago and UMass Lowell senior Scott Boiko, both of whom were recently named Capital One Academic All-America, were also named Academic All-Conference.

A total of 14 student-athletes garnered Academic All-Conference accolades in the sport of women’s outdoor track & field, headlined by New Haven sophomore Ada Udaya, who earned three All-America performances at the 2013 NCAA Outdoor Championships and was named the 2013 Northeast-10 Women’s Outdoor Track & Field Athlete of the Year.
