Former AIC Standout Daquan Holmes Signs Contract with Green Bay Packers

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

MANSFIELD, Mass. - The National Football League's Green Bay Packers announced that the team has signed former American International defensive back Daquan Holmes to a contract. Holmes graduated in May.

"Singing a contract means I just get a chance to compete with some great football players," Holmes said, adding "My time at AIC...taught me how to handle obstacles and just to always work hard no matter what."

"Just about every NFL team came in this year to see Daquan," said AIC head football coach Art Wilkins. "He's smart, he's fast, he is an Academic All-American. He will be a good player to for any NFL team, and I see him having a good NFL career."

Holmes was one of the most prolific pass-defenders in AIC and Northeast-10 Conference history. He set school and conference records for career interceptions with 20, and interception returns for touchdowns with six. He added 233 career tackles, including 14.5 behind the line of scrimmage.

He was named NE10 First-Team All-Conference for the 2015 and 2016 campaigns, while also earning back-to-back Division II/III All-Star Selections from the New England Football Writers Association and a Third-Team Super Region One selection from Don Hansen's Football Gazette in 2016.

He competed at the National Bowl - the annual DII/DIII football all-star game - this spring and earned defensive MVP honors for his performance.

To date, eight Yellow Jackets have reached the highest level on the gridiron, most notably Tom Rychlec '57, who played for the Detroit Lions, Buffalo Bills, and Denver Broncos in a five-year career, and Bruce Laird '72, who played a dozen NFL seasons, including 10 with the then-Baltimore Colts, and was named to the Pro Bowl.
