The top two seeds held serve in the semifinal round of the 2014 Northeast-10 Conference Men's Soccer Championship, but got there in very different ways.
#1 Southern New Hampshire 2, #5 Merrimack 0
MANCHESTER, N.H. - A pair of goals by senior Kenny Doublette lifted top-seeded Southern New Hampshire University to a 2-0 win over No. 5 seed Merrimack College in the semifinal round of the 2014 Northeast-10 Men's Soccer Championship Friday night at Larkin Field.
The Penmen improve to 16-1-1 and will host second-seeded Southern Connecticut State University in Sunday's conference final (1:00 pm) after the Owls rallied for a 2-1 win over Adelphi University Friday night. Merrimack, which is ranked third in the East Region and must now wait to learn its NCAA fate, stands 13-4-2.
Doublette staked Southern New Hampshire to a 1-0 lead just 5:28 into the contest. He took a pass from Sebastian Stezewski and his shot from the right of the top of the 18 clanged off the far left post and in for his 13th goal of the season. The hosts carried a 1-0 lead into halftime.
In the 60th minute, Doublette added an insurance goal, taking a long pass from Stezewski, streaking down the right side, and firing to the far right post to make it 2-0.
Southern New Hampshire carried play much of the contest, holding an 18-3 shot advantage. Graduate student keeper Dom DiMaggio was not forced to make a save for his seventh shutout of the season, while NE-10 Goalkeeper of the Year Jose Silva made a pair of stops in 76 minutes, before being relieved by Lucas Rezende, who was also forced to make two saves. The hosts also took 10 of the game's 11 corner kicks.

NEW HAVEN, Conn.
- Daquan King scored
the game winning goal in the
88th minute to propel the No. 15
nationally ranked Southern Connecticut State University Owls past
the Adelphi Universtiy Panthers 2-1 on Friday night in the
Northeast-10 Conference Semifinals. The Owls move on to the
finals where they will face Southern New Hampshire on Sunday at 1
p.m.
King scored after Adelphi goalie Ahmad
Salamah's goal kick was controlled by the Owls'
attack. It was picked up by Chae
Brangman who
delivered a perfect through ball to King who chipped it over
Salamah's head after he had come too far out of the net. It
was King's ninth goal of the year.
King's goal came just five minutes
after Markus Jacobsen scored
his ninth goal of the year. Jacobsen was to the left of the net
when he took a pass from Daniel Ruiz and
fired it on the ground to the far post.
Adelphi scored their first goal
at 42:55. Federico
De Oliveira centered a pass toward the middle of the
box where Diego Zuniga was able to chip
it in to the right of keeper Noah
Varonier.
Championship Update
The 2014 Men's Soccer Championship semifinals will take place on Friday, Nov. 7, with the Championship Final being played Sunday, Nov. 9 at 1 p.m. The highest remaining seed will host the championship final game, and The Northeast-10 Conference will be broadcasting the final game live at northeast10.tv on Sunday, Nov. 9 at 1:00 p.m.
