NE10 Men's Tennis Teams of the Week: Saint Michael's, Southern New Hampshire

Saint Michael's, SNHU

Each week for the remainder of the spring we will honor the seniors from two NE10 men's tennis programs as our teams of the week for each player's dedication to their program and teammates.

SAINT MICHAEL'S

Coach Jason Hammel on his senior class - "As a leader he is everything that a coach wants; Matt leads by example and sets a very high standard for his team.  He has always been quick to hold himself and his teammates accountable for the way they speak, the attitude and manner with which they conduct themselves, and how they treat other members of the community.  His leadership has helped our performance on the court by driving the development of our culture off of the court.  He is irreplaceable in that regard, and I wish him well as he tackles the real world - a challenge that I am sure will come easy to him."

Season Recap
The Purple Knights had a 7-3 start to the 2019-20 campaign, prior to the cancellation of spring sports. Saint Michael's had a strong start in the fall, going 4-0 in September and October before a 3-3 start to the spring season. Even though the Purple Knights dropped a pair of NE10 matches to Franklin Pierce and Adelphi, they managed to secure the most overall wins of any league program. Matt Mosher was 3-2 in singles matches and 7-4 in doubles matches this year.

SOUTHERN NEW HAMPSHIRE

Coach Greg Coache on his senior class - "Bas and Willem were both the most highly competitive and extremely respectful individuals I ever had the pleasure of coaching.  They shined on the singles court and were one of my best doubles combinations ever, all while nailing it in the classrooms with GPAs above 3.75. I was truly honored and blessed to have coached them."

Season Recap
Four-time reigning NE10 champion Southern New Hampshire had won 36-straight NE10 matches, excluding the league tournament, dating back to the 2016 season. The Penmen didn't have the chance to add to that streak this spring due to sport cancellations, but were 6-3 prior to the shutdown. SNHU was 4-0 in the fall season, while posting a 2-3 mark in the spring while facing top competition in No. 14 Flagler and No. 18 Florida Southern. The Penmen, who are coming off a trip to the NCAA Round of 16 in the spring of 2019, had a highlight victory over former NE10 member Merrimack (now Division I) on Oct. 13. The van Biezen brothers were 7-2 this season at No. 1 doubles for head coach Greg Coache.
