Yellow Jackets Receive At-Large Bid.
MANSFIELD, Mass. - The American International women's basketball program has received an at-large bid for for the 2021 NCAA Women's Basketball Tournament, as announced during the NCAA Selection Show on Sunday night. The Yellow Jackets, who qualified as an independent, earned the No. 4 seed and will play No. 5 Roberts Wesleyan of the East Coast Conference (ECC). The regional quarterfinals will be played on Friday, March 12, but the time of the game and broadcast information will come later this week.
The NCAA East Regional will be hosted by Daemen College in Amherst, N.Y. The top seed in the East is Dominican (NY) of the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC).
The NE10 announced on Dec. 15 that it would cancel formal winter sports competition, but institutions retained the autonomy to determine if they would engage in independent athletic contests. AIC competed in eight basketball games this winter, going 7-1 - including a four-game winning streak to finish the abbreviated season. The Yellow Jackets notched a pair of wins against two other NE10 opponents - Franklin Pierce and Saint Rose - who also competed as independents.
