Top Four Seeds Advance to Semifinal of NE-10 Women's Lacrosse Championship

Le Moyne's Amari Pollard scored six times to help lead the Dolphins to a convincing win over Assumption as all four higher seeds advanced to the semifinals of the women's lacrosse championship.

#1 Adelphi 16, #8 Saint Michael's 4 | BOX SCORE 

Garden City, N.Y. - With the score tied 2-2 early in the first half, the top-seeded Adelphi scored 14 unanswered goals en route to a 16-4 victory against eighth-seeded Saint Michael's in the Northeast-10 Tournament Quarterfinals on Wednesday night.

A six-point (5G, 1 A) night from Alexa Froccaro helped the Panthers (16-1) advance to the semifinals, while Danielle Jaycox added three goals. Rachel AitkensJacqueline Jahelka and Emily Keesling all added two goals in the victory. Saint Michael's (6-9) got two goals by Steph Bonewald in their season-ender. 

The visiting Purple Knights converted on a free position opportunity just 3:40 into the game as Kate Boyer tallied her 23rd goal of the season to give the No. 8 seeds a 1-0 lead. The Panthers responded in due course just minutes later as Jaycox beat Purple Knights keeper Grace Gunning to tie things up at 1-1. 

Just 44 seconds later, Aitkens scored her first of the half off of a feed from O'Brien to take the lead at 2-1, but Bonewald responded for the Purple Knights on another free position chance to knot things at 2-2. 

From that point, six Panthers scored six unanswered goals in the duration of the half to turn a 2-2 tie into an 8-2 lead at the break. The highlight of the run for Adelphi came at 7:59, when Froccaro sprinted down the field to score unassisted with Adelphi playing a man down due to a Keesling penalty. 

To start the second half, Keesling and Forccaro scored within seconds of each other in the first minute to put Adelphi on top, 10-2. Froccaro, Jahelka, Jaycox and Jill Graziano all scored for Adelphi in the ensuing minutes to take a 16-2 lead with less than five minutes to play. The Purple Knights tacked on two goals at the end of the game against Taylor Langston, but Adelphi's early cushion was strong enough to see them to a 16-4 win.

The Panthers will host the duration of the NE-10 Tournament this weekend, returning to action in an 11 a.m. semifinal game against the winner of Stonehill and Bentley.

#2 Le Moyne 18, #7 Assumption 1 | BOX SCORE

Syracuse, N.Y. – Sophomore midfielder Amari Pollard scored a career-high six goals to lead the fourth-ranked and second-seeded Le Moyne to an 18-1 victory over seventh-seeded Assumption in the quarterfinals of the Northeast-10 Conference Championship on Wednesday afternoon at Ted Grant Field.

With the victory, the Dolphins improve to 16-2 on the season and advance to the Northeast-10 Conference Championship semifinals, where they will face the third-seeded University of New Haven at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday at top-seeded Adelphi in Garden City, N.Y. Adelphi will also host the championship game on Sunday at 1:00 p.m.

Junior attacker Erica Geremia got the scoring started with 26:16 left by finishing off a feed from classmate Maggie Monnat, who had caused a turnover on an Assumption clearing attempt and scooped up the loose ball. Just 56 seconds later, Geremia scored from the left edge of the crease after coming from behind the cage.

The Greyhounds netted their lone goal of the contest as Meghan Cushing scored from the right edge of the crease with 21:11 remaining.

Le Moyne countered with six goals over a span of 7:14 to take an 8-1 lead. Senior attacker Julia Suriani ignited the run by netting her 52nd goal of the year with 20:02 left after taking a pass from Monnat. Pollard recorded her first goal of the day with 18:47 remaining after going coast-to-coast following a save by senior goalkeeper Molly Marbut.

Suriani picked up her second goal of the afternoon with 17:18 to go, while Pollard followed with an unassisted marker 33 seconds later. Just over three minutes later, sophomore attacker Alexis Garbarino registered her fifth goal of the season, while Monnat capped the streak with her 24th goal with 12:48 left.

The Dolphins, who defeated the Greyhounds, 18-6, last Wednesday in Worcester, closed out the half's scoring with two goals six minutes apart. Suriani made the score 9-1 with 6:56 left, while Pollard gave the Dolphins a 10-1 halftime lead with her 40th goal of the year with 56 seconds left after taking a pass from Monnat.

Le Moyne had five players account for its eight goals in the second half. Geremia started the half's scoring with her 60th goal of the campaign with 29:07 left. Senior midfielder Laura Hoffman made the score 12-1 with 25:50 remaining by converting a free-position shot for her 29th goal of the year.

After almost 10 minutes of scoreless play, Geremia netted her 61st goal of the season. With the goal, Geremia moved within one point of tying the program's single-season points record of 106 set by Brittany Brigandi '12 during the 2011 season. Redshirt freshman midfielder Nicole Easterly recorded her sixth goal of the year with 12:26 to play after taking a pass from sophomore midfielder Molly McGuane.

Pollard tallied three of Le Moyne's final four goals over the last 11:14. She gave the Dolphins a 15-1 advantage with 11:14 to play and then posted another unassisted marker with 9:14 left. After scooping up a loose ball off a missed shot and getting fouled, McGuane converted a free-position shot with 5:45 left for her 14th goal of the campaign. Pollard completed the scoring with 35 seconds left after taking a feed from redshirt freshman attacker Sarah Fuller.

Marbut finished the contest with 10 saves, her fifth game of the season with double-digit stops, to record her 16th victory of the season, which ties her career-high and is tied for the second-most in the program's history. Jaclyn Chirco made eight saves (against 16 goals) over 50:46 in the loss.

#3 New Haven 13, #6 Saint Anselm 9 | BOX SCORE

WEST HAVEN, Conn. – The nationally-ranked No. 5 New Haven got three goals each from Kathryn CampbellCourtney Ackland and Maya Szymanski as the Chargers defeated the No. 20 Saint Anselm Hawks 13-9 in a Northeast-10 Championship quarterfinal on Wednesday evening at Arcadio 'Kayo' Rodriguez Field.

With the win, New Haven improves to 15-2 overall and advances to the NE-10 semifinals where it will face nationally ranked No. 4 Le Moyne who advanced with a quarterfinal win against Assumption. The game will take place on Saturday, May 2 on the campus of Adelphi in Garden City, N.Y. The time of the game will be determined on Thursday.

The Chargers scored the first two tallies of the game just over a minute in as Ackland and Szymanski recorded goals on their first shots of the contest. The game continued in two goal spurts each way as the Hawks tied the game at 2-2, before New Haven scored a pair of its own from Ackland and Corinne Fisher to take a 4-2 lead at the 23:36 mark.

The two goals a side trend carried until the score was 6-4 in favor of the Blue and Gold on Ackland's third goal of the game with just more than six minutes left in the half. After Saint Anselm pulled to 6-5, the Chargers had the final say in the stanza as Campbell netted her second of the contest, propelling New Haven to a 7-5 halftime lead.

The Hawks rallied to score the first goal of the second half, but the Chargers went on a spurt, scoring four of the next five goals capped by Campbell's third goal of the night to make it 11-7 just before the midway mark of the frame. From there, each team held serve, netting two goals apiece with Szymanski scoring the final marker with 1:17 remaining to seal the contest.

In addition to the hat tricks from Campbell, Ackland and Szymanski, Caitlin O'Brien scored a goal and added two assists with Fisher scoring a pair of goals and Nicole Belanger adding one of her own.

#4 Stonehill 15, #5 Bentley 10 | BOX SCORE

EASTON, Mass. – Fourth-seeded Stonehill opened up a nine goal lead in the second half and made it stand in posting a 15-10 triumph over fifth-seeded Bentley University in quarterfinal round action of the 2015 Northeast-10 Conference Women's Lacrosse Tournament on Timothy J. Coughlin Memorial Field at W.B. Mason Stadium.

Stonehill (15-3, 10-3 NE-10) advances to this weekend's NE-10 semifinal round where it will face top-seeded and host Adelphi (16-1, 12-1 NE-10) in Garden City, New York, on Saturday at 11 a.m. The Panthers advanced with a 16-4 victory over eighth-seeded Saint Michael's in their quarterfinal tonight.

Adelphi will host the remainder of the NE-10 Tournament with the championship game scheduled for Sunday at 1 p.m. Bentley sees its season come to a close with a 10-6 record overall, including a 9-4 mark in the NE-10. Tonight's win also likely solidifies Stonehill's NCAA Tournament credentials with the Skyhawks ranked fourth in this week's North Regional rankings. NCAA Tournament bids will be announced on Sunday at 8 p.m.

Seniors Lizzie Lane and Brooke Rudden paced the Stonehill attack with four points apiece tonight. Lane netted a game-high four goals to go with six draw controls, while Rudden added a goal and three assists with a caused turnover. Rudden's career-high 45 assists this season rank second on the program's single-season list, giving her 94 career assists to rank fifth all-time at Stonehill.

Senior Ashley Armstrong made seven saves in the Stonehill goal, chipping in with two ground balls, for her 47th career win – matching the program record set by Stonehill Athletics Hall of Famer Lauren Stone '06. Three of her seven stops came on free-position attempts as Bentley converted just 5-of-12 on the night. The Skyhawks finished with a 27-23 edge in shots, but controlled the game by posting a 19-8 advantage in draw controls to help overcome a 13-11 deficit in turnovers.

Sophomore Lauren Ochs registered eight saves in the Bentley goal.Senior Jillian Yung and junior Caitlin Sweeney each netted three goals for Stonehill, while chipping in a caused turnover apiece. Sophomore Elizabeth Vetter contributed two goals and an assist for three points, collecting a career-high ten draws with five ground balls and two caused turnovers.

Senior Jackie Brown led Bentley with three goals and an assist for four points. Junior Kelsey Howard added two goals, four ground balls and a caused turnover, while sophomore Hannah Lindgren registered a goal and assist with four draw controls. Junior Meredith Hart chipped in with a goal and assist, three ground balls and two caused turnovers.
