Letkowski to Continue His Role in Compliance.

NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Southern Connecticut State University Vice President for Student Affairs Tracy Tyree has announced that Matt Letkowski has been appointed as the Owls' Interim Director of Athletics, effective Tuesday, Jan. 26, 2021.

"I'm very excited to name Matt Letkowski as Southern Connecticut's Interim Director of Athletics," Tyree said. "Matt has played an integral role in the department's success during his time at Southern. He is well respected by his colleagues in athletics as well as the entire university community and the Northeast 10. I trust that Matt will excel in guiding the athletic department during this transitional phase as we lead up to the search for our next director of athletics."

Letkowski currently serves as the department's associate athletic director for compliance. He is in his ninth year at Southern Connecticut after joining the Owls in 2012 as the assistant director of compliance. Letkowski was promoted to interim associate athletic director of compliance in 2014 before being promoted to the permanent position in 2016.

"I want to thank Vice President Tracy Tyree for the opportunity that she has given me," Letkowski said. "I'm looking forward to continuing to build relationships with our coaches and student-athletes and grow as an administrator. We have a lot of work ahead and I'm excited to lead Southern Athletics at this time."

Letkowski spent parts of two academic years at the University of Hartford, where he was responsible for daily compliance oversight of 18 athletic programs. He also conducted monthly compliance education meetings, prepared NCAA and institutional reports, including the National Letter of Intent program, and served as the financial aid and admissions liaison. Prior to his stint at Hartford, Letkowski was on the staff of the Fairfield University athletic department from 2009-11.

He holds a bachelor's of arts degree from the University of Connecticut and a master's degree from St. John's University.

A national search for a permanent director of athletics at Southern is expected to commence in the coming months.
