SOUTH EASTON, Mass. – The University of
New Haven received seven first-place votes en route to the top spot
in the 2012 Northeast-10 Conference Football Coaches’
Preseason Poll, receiving 63 points overall in the voting.
New Haven, which went 11-2 and 8-0 in Northeast-10 Conference play
a year ago, advanced all the way to the national quarterfinals last
season before falling to Winston-Salem State University, 27-7. The
Chargers were also selected No. 13 nationally in the 2012 American
Football Coaches Association (AFCA) Preseason Division II Coaches'
Poll.
Southern Connecticut State University (7-3, 6-2 NE-10) finished
second in the voting among Northeast-10 head coaches with 53 points
and one-first place vote, while American International College
(6-4, 5-3 NE-10) came in third by a narrow margin with 50 points.
The Yellow Jackets also received one first-place tally.
Bentley University (6-4, 5-3 NE-10) and Merrimack College (6-4,
5-3 NE-10) finished in a tie for fourth place with 41 points apiece
in the voting.
Rounding out the poll was Assumption College (4-6, 3-5 NE-10) with
29 points, Stonehill College (4-7, 3-5 NE-10) with 24 points, Saint
Anselm College (1-9, 1-7 NE-10) with 15 points and Pace University
(1-9, 0-8 NE-10) with eight points.
The 2012 campaign will serve as the inaugural season of the Northeast-10 Conference Championship in the
sport of football, set for November 10 with the top seed hosting
the second seed. On the same date, the team that finishes third
during the regular season will play host to the sixth-place school,
the fourth-place finisher will host the seventh-place finisher, and
the fifth-place squad will take on the eighth-place team.
In addition, Stonehill will host New Haven on Thursday, October 18
at 8:00 p.m. in a nationally televised game, which will be
broadcast live on CBS College Sports Network.
