Lupoli Earns All-America Status from Both AFCA and D2CCA.
MANSFIELD, Mass. – Bentley's Salvatore Lupoli Jr., New Haven's Dev Holmes and Giye Jenkins have earned All-America football honors, as recently announced by the American Football Coaches Association (AFCA), the Division II Conference Commissioners Association (D2CCA) and the Associated Press (AP).
Lupoli Jr. and Holmes were selected as First Team All-America players in the AFCA, with Lupoli also earning D2CCA status on the Second Team. Jenkins was named Second Team All-America by the Associated Press.
Lupoli Jr., the NE10 Most Valuable Player, led all Division II players in tackles per game (12.3) this season - totaling 123 in 10 games (47 solo, 76 assisted) for Bentley's top-5 nationally-ranked scoring defense. Lupoli Jr. was also a selection to the D2CCA All-Super Region 1 Team and All-New England Football Team.
Holmes, the NE10 Offensive Player of the Year, helped lead the Chargers to their fifth NE10 title in program history and their third-straight NCAA postseason berth. He was a dual threat for New Haven as a wide receiver and punt returner, recording 38 receptions for 554 yards and 11 touchdowns - while tallying 280 punt return yards (17.5 yards per return) with a touchdown. Holmes was a selection to the D2CCA All-Super Region 1 Team and All-New England Football Team.
Jenkins, the NE10 Defensive Player of the Year, was a key part of New Haven's top-20 scoring defense. He tied for the NE10 lead with five interceptions this season, while adding 57 tackles, four tackles for a loss and eight pass break-ups. Jenkins helped the Chargers win the NE10 title with a 24-17 victory over Bentley on November 11.
