LIU Post Earns Top Seed in Upcoming Northeast-10 Field Hockey Championship

Pioneers complete perfect regular
season in first year as associate member

SOUTH EASTON, Mass. – In its first year as a Northeast-10 Conference associate member in the sport of field hockey, Long Island University Post completed its league schedule with a perfect 10-0 record to earn the No. 1 seed in the upcoming conference championship, which begins Tuesday, November 5 with a pair of first-round games.

As a result of earning the top seed, LIU Post (18-0, 10-0 NE-10), ranked No. 4 in the nation, receives a bye into the semifinal round, as does second-seeded Merrimack College (13-4, 9-1 NE-10). Both will host a semifinal game on Friday.

Tuesday's first-round contest will feature third-seeded Stonehill College hosting sixth-seeded Southern Connecticut State University (5-13, 4-6 NE-10) at 7:00 p.m. and fifth-seeded Bentley University (11-7, 5-5 NE-10) traveling to fourth-seeded Adelphi University (10-8, 5-5 NE-10) for a 1:00 p.m. contest.

The Northeast-10 Conference will be broadcasting the field hockey championship final live at northeast10.tv on Sunday, Nov. 10 at 1:00 p.m. The highest remaining seed will host the contest.

The conference will also be providing live updates of all conference championship games on its Twitter feed (@TheNortheast10).

LIU Post, which clinched the top seed on the final day of the regular season by defeating Stonehill College in overtime, outscored NE-10 foes 43-9 in league play and posted five shutouts this season. The Pioneers are led offensively by four-time Northeast-10 Player of the Week Carlee Dragon, who currently leads the conference in assists with 15 and is second in goals with 30. 

Merrimack, which was the top seed in last year's championship, earned the No. 2 seed this year with a 9-1 league record and have won seven straight heading into championship action. 

The Northeast-10 is an association of 15 NCAA Division II colleges and universities located in New England and New York that is committed to supporting balanced academic and athletic opportunities for more than 6,000 student-athletes. Each year, 4,000 of those student-athletes compete in Conference championships in 23 sports, making the NE-10 the largest DII conference in the country in terms of sports sponsorship. Leading the way in the classroom, on the field and within the community, the Northeast-10 is proud of its comprehensive program and the experience it provides student-athletes.
